Homemade cover lifter

Anyone made their own coverlifter?  I saw one on e-bay for around $35 which seemed pretty simple to make myself with PVC, conduit, or other substance.  I could attach the base to my deck and rest the cover against the rail of the deck when lifted off the tub.  We have a Jetsetter so the cover isnt' as big and bulky as others.  Anyone else try this?  Also, how much stress is put on the cover with lifters that suspend the cover on the middle seam when lifted off the tub?
