Calcium Hardness Increaser?
« on: August 24, 2006, 08:33:02 pm »
Do you guys add Calcium Hardness Increaser to your tubs?  My startup kit came with a small bottle that I added when we set the tub up.  I just recently did a water change and was curious if I needed to get another bottle to add.
My tub is filled with 1/2 hard and 1/2 soft water if this makes any difference.

Thanks,
Jr

To answer your question it would be necessary to know the hardness of your water before additions.  Total hardness should be in the range of 150 to 300.

The range for hardness is 150 to 400. It sounds like you might be getting into the range without adding it ... what is the hardness reading without adding it?

Harder water foams less. Or harder water reduces soap's ability to foam. Too much hardness is not good either. Am I making any sense? I'm not sure.

The Taylor kit I bought does not test for hardness, but I am sure my dealer could check it for me.  I will run a sample by and have it tested.  Will water hardness change over time, or once it is set, will it only fluctuate when fresh water is added?

My K-2005 Taylor Test kit will check for Calcium hardness. Perhaps you got a lower end version. I would take your water to your dealer or local pool supply store for testing.
