Master Spa LS800

Hi Guys,
I've got a chance to buy a 3year old MasterSpa LS800 spa for $2000.00.  Does anyone have any knowledge about these spas?  The website is a little vague.  Thanks, Bill

This was my 2nd choice 3 years ago. If you can verify its condition, the price seems ok. This was around a $7500 yub back then.  I have a friend with a 1050 still going strong.

Thanks,  This is my brother in laws tub that hasn't been used in the past 3 winters.  I guess my concern is the insulation.  From what I've read, it isn't that great.  Right now I have to decide between the $8,000 Tahition that I have a small deposit on, or this $2,000 Master Spa.  Thanks again, Bill

Wow, that's very tempting. I would much rather have the Tahitian but for $2K I would certanly consider the Master. I guess if you hated it you could sell it later and get your money back.  I would probably go for the Master it if it's in good condition. If money isn't an issue for you I would go with the Caldera.

Hey Bill, I sell the Masterspa line.
They are a really well made spa. I would be a little concerned about how long the spa sat without use. If you can see the spa operating before you buy it and it is problem free $2000 is a fair price. Otherwise I wouldnt spend more than $1000. If you dont see it operational you can count on the spa needing some type of mechanical repair.
You also have the added cost of moving the spa, new filters, etc. There is not much of a used spa demand in my market. Being that this is your Bro in law Im sure he will be straight with you.

I realize spas are luxury items like rv's, vacation homes, etc.....
but a $7500 only being worth $1k after 3 yrs?
personally, I bought a caldera niagra in mar of '05, and love it.
ironically, I was at an estate sale in june '05, and bought a HS jettsetter very cheap. I looked up by serial # and found it to be 4 1/2 years old. It looked great. I filled it, tested it, put an add in the local paper, and sold it for $2600. A new jetsetter at the time here in va beach was $5700.
As it looks like i will be moving to GA with in the next 2 months, I was thinking, do I take the spa with me, or leave it with the house , and buy another one?
are there some brands that hold there value better than others?

I tried to qualify it the best I could.
The $1000 # was based on not knowing what condition the spa was in and assuming it would need work. Also being sold person to person without the benefit of a spa professional gauranteeing the workability of the spa. Thats really just my opinion on what I would spend. I am sure someone would be willing to spend more than that.
In terms of certain brands having a better resale value, I would think that would all depend on the buyer and there understanding of spas. Obviously the higher end spas should command a higher $.

i just started thinking about the value added to a house, with my impending move. i certainly dont want to throw away $10k.

One other concern that I have is that the nearest dealer near me is 80 miles away.  I understand that parts and filters can only be obtained at a dealer, and  there are 4 of them.  Anyone know if this is correct?  Thanks,  Bill

I like my Master Spa, now three YO.   Yup, four filers.  Two inner and two outer, the inner filters slip inside the outer.  I clean filters monthly (remove and spray with hose, maybe brush out hair or bugs) and replace every 12-15 months.

Price sound good .. probably about half of what your BIL paid.

I keep my tub filled and in use year-round (Northern VA) and have had no freezing problems.  Last winter went through 72 hour power outage with 15-20 degree temps.  I wrapped tub in insulating batts and covered it with a tarp.  Water was about 75 degrees when power came back on.
