Why Change Water After 1st 30 Days?
« on: July 18, 2006, 10:13:43 am »
I've read several posts advocating a water change after the first 30 days with a new tub.

Why?

I'm right at the 30 day mark with the new Grandee.  The water balance is perfect.

How would I benefit from a water change?

Cheers

The 30 day  is one of "Chas's Rule" (Chas, a vauled contribitor to the fourm and a proffesional in the spa industry).

The rule comes from that typically new users tend to make a lot of mistakes in the first month, and kill the water and then try to bring the water back by adding even more chemicals.

This seems to be true more often than not, and is just part of the learning curve.

You seem to be an exception to the rule, (which is a good thing).

This is my third tub and I've become pretty good at keeping the water balanced.

I've always used a Taylor test kit.

I test and adjust levels, if necessary,  about every 2 days.  I've found it keeps that pesky PH in line ;)

I've only started to use the N2 system with Diclor with this tub.  That's working great.

Cheers

3 tubs?

That's a lot! What happened to the other 2?

First tub was a Hot Springs (don't remember the model) and was replaced under warranty in 1998.

The second replacement was a Grandee which started crazing and the small crazing cracks opened to huge cracks.   And the tub was leaking like a sieve.

It was way out of warranty but I decided to contact my local dealer (International Hot Tub) and see what they would do.

The owner contacted HS and said he would replace the tub with a new 2006 Grandee for 7K.  Including the cover, upgraded cover caddy, and delivery.

I accepted and the new tub was delivered on June 15.
