I just learned something new!!!
« on: July 13, 2006, 06:07:30 pm »
I was doing a service call via phone on a Coleman 706 today. The spa has the ability to lock certain things on the control panel like just the temp, or the whole panel to ensure filter settings and such don't get messed with.

My customer had a slue of grandkids visiting so she decided to lock the temp setting at a 100. Well it's been 100 outside for days and thats just two hot. She read her manual and couldn't get the control panel to unlock.

Not really wanting leave airconditioning at the store, I suggested flipping the breaker off for several hours so the control would default to factory settings. This didn't work and not only did it not default, it held the time of day, and the filter settings.

I called Coleman and found out that the control panel on the 700 series spas will hold the program for 48 days. Thats great for the customer because they don't have to reprogram after water changes, service, or if they drain and go south for a few months. But now I have to leave this nice cool store and play with a control panel... 8)

So ummmmmmmmm, how many days in one of your months?  ;D
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

She's close to Canada so maybe that is in metric time.

Oops Dr. Spa, Coleman said 48 days to 2 months before the backup looses memory.

I couldn't get the control panel unlocked from the topside so I had to short across the J-36 jumper which took everything back to factory defaults.

I haven't had to do anything on a control panel except unplug and plug into it since tech training. Coleman tech was great, they were on the phone with me and walked me through the whole thing. I even got to use my new tool that balboa gave us. It's a popsicle stick with some prongs taped to it with electrical tape. It's crude but effective and worked great to stick on the jumper to short across it.

I would have been in and out of there in 20 minutes if I could get those d**m curved panels back on quicker.
