Spa Coming Tues..How long to heat n use?
« on: June 04, 2006, 04:37:24 pm »
Thank you every one for your help.  My Marquis 315 is coming Tuesday! Thank you DPS for recommending one  ;)

The dealer said that they will come at 3:30 pm so they can be back home at 7pm (live 1 hr- 1 hr 15 mins from dealer).  Forecast in our area says it will be 81-87 degrees next several days.  Hot tub is going to be placed in 11 ft x 18 ft screened in patio. Dealer said 1 degree an hr to heat??? Tub uses 110.

1.How long will it take our tub to be warm enough to use??

2. Can we use hot water to fill faster? (Have a old dryer vent on patio wall that the garden hose can go straight down into our basement sink). Will be soft water, though.

Will post pictures when all done!  8)

It all depends on the temp out of the hose. If it's 65 and your heating to 100, then 35 hours.

There are cautions about using hot water to fill the tub.

70 gallons at 140 degrees or so will help, but I'm not sure by how much.

If you use 70 gallons at 140 degrees and 70 gallons at 60 degrees then you'll end up with 150 gallons at 100 degrees.  If you mix that with another 150 gallons at 60 degrees you'll have 300 gallons starting at 80 degrees.

Obviously, the larger your tub the cooler your starting temp will be.

This calculation assumes you need 300 gallons and the water from your garden hose is 60 degrees and the water at your sink is 140 (and you can get 70 gallons of hot water from the sink).

At 1 degree per hour, this would save 20 hours.

From here it looks like your in Iowa, which is about the same latitude as where I am.  Starting water temp is a big part of your question.   There are many factors you mentioned, but not this one. This time of year, I am going to guess your starting this time of year will be around 56.

er- did you say one degree per hour? That seems pretty slow. Any Marqui 310 owners/dealers able to comment? Is that cuz it is 110? I thought 6-10 deg per hour was the average range. Even if you cound count on 3 deg per hour, that's still a hot tub 3x faster than you are counting on now!

I've filled many a Marquis, it should heat at least 2-3 degrees an hour on 110v, on 220 it would be around 7-10 an hour.  Enjoy the tub, you made a great choice.
