Placing Tub Against House

Does anybody have any advice for a newbie about whether he should place one side of his new tub against a brick wall on the side of his house?

My instinct is to allow room to access the all sides should it need service, but my girlfriend ("the boss") doesn't want to leave a gap between the tub and the house wall.

We'll  theoretically be running the electric through that side of the tub too, the way I see it we'll have the tub set away from the wall, have the electricity hooked up to it, push it against the wall, then fill it up.

Any thoughts?

Service accessability as you mentioned.....cover/cover lifter.....noise from tub transmitted into house.

I would leave enough space for possible future servicing.

I'd leave 3' to allow potential service access.  
If you don't, Murphy will ensure the very first problem you have is a leak in the side of the spa against the house.

How are you going to lift the cover?  You've got to leave some space.

My tub is in a corner, about ten inches from one wall and about 2.5 feet from the other. The 2.5 foot part is where the cover goes.

When I had to fix a pipe (when I initially got it - it was a diy job) the leak was on 10 inch side.

It wasn't that hard to slide it away from the wall though, to do the work.
Sliding a tub isn't too hard - you just need to lift it enough to slide a 1 inch dowel under the frame.

The tub is happily back in place, about ten inches from the wall.

My concern would be the vibration that you would expierence in the house from it sitting on the edge of the house.  When they filter or run on high, it does create noise, I would worry that this would bother me at night during sleep.
