OK,...the owners of this horse are not typical track people..and yes Barbaro would be valuable as a stud, but if you read any of the articles about the horse, and it's owners,  you will find that these people would have attemped to save the horse even if he were a gelding. The comments about little Barbaros is the hope that the horse would heal well enough to be a stud.
I think there are probably other factors...like the damage to the Sport of Kings...after the public witnessed the horror of the injury. Also, The University of Pennsylvania New Bolton Center is a renowned large animal hospital and complicated bone injuries are a speciality...which is why they have a horsie hot tub!
I guess I am particularly interested as this is all happening in my "backyard" and I love to know miracles do happen...even for animals!

I agree with you about the owners and wanting to try and save the horse....I think the hope for the horse and its stud value is wonderful for both the horse and its owners.....you know like a good spa deal.....win win for all.....

And Anne, I am one of the nuts who is willing to do what it takes to make my critters better...My husband is still not over the box turtle that I found on the road...It needed a vitamin A shot and antibiotic shots for 2 weeks. Herp and reptile docs are not cheap..Almost $200.00 later, she is a healthy beauty ...my contribution to Mother Nature

That horse is on it's way to France for fricasseein' as it is a delicacy to the Frogs.  The picture they WANT you to believe is that it is being cared for by all concerned.......it is actually being marinated in peanut oil.

And Greyhounds do make excellent pets. There are a ton of them up for adoption as retired or failed racers. They're smart, not at all hyper, loving and devoted. Unfortunately, a lot of them get euthanized, since they become not financially valuable.

And AI is widely used for horses. I'm not an equine person, but I think that sometimes AI is prefered over the "natural" way to avoid injury to either party. Poor horsies. :-/

Not much fun for the horse because the method they use to collect the goodies involves an electric prod.
