Is This A Good Deal For A Marquis?

My wife and I have pretty much narrowed our choice down to the Marquis Retreat. As stated in another post, we liked this spa very much and the size is just right for us.

We do not desire the biggest or the best. Just something us 40 somethings can relax in.

Today we put a down payment on an '05 floor model. The dealer has been awesome to work with and I think he is offering us a fair deal, but wanted to check here before we committ.

He told me the '05 model has been on the floor for 3 months but would carry the full factory warranty. it looks to be in perfect condition. His offer is, $3,500 for the hot tub, 6 months supply of Frog Spa mineral and bromine cartridges, 12 light system, cover, cover lifter, delivery and set-up. From what i can tell, this is a pretty good deal. Am i wrong?

I don't know about the price, six months of cartridges is two minerals and twelve bromine.  The new ones may last longer than two weeks that I had seen.  Personally, I would recommend that you get him to give you 6 to 8 minerals and use dichlor but that would be the same for any tub.

That's an amazing price.  The Retreat sells for $4,595 at my store.  The Retreat wasn't available in 2005 though, there was a spa called the 415 that had the same shell but was 5" taller.  Are you sure it's not a 415?

I am sure it is a Retreat. Perhaps it is an '04 or an '06 then?

It's probably an 06, they didn't make the Retreat in 04.  Again, that's an awesome deal.  We charge $4,595 + $250 for the cover lift, so you're definitely getting a good price.  What dealer are you working with?

When is a price too good to be true?  Why would a dealer sell a spa so cheaply?

After talking with the dealer off and on over the last 2 weeks, we found out today that we had been in the same Marine outfit in Desert Storm of '90. Neither recognized each other, as 16 years beats up and old solider pretty good.

I guess he may be selling to me at just above cost? I don't know, but I am going to take this offer!

at that price, you might want to ask him about doing the electrical upgrade  to 220. Espically so if you are bringing out and electrician to wire for the 110.  Might as well do the 220. imho.

I do have the 110 nearby, but will check into the cost to go with 220.  I understand that with 220 you can run the jets and heat at the same time right?

That's right Monk, I understand the heater and pumps cannot operate at the same time on a 110 set  up.

Personaly,  I think if you are outside with the tub  it's needed. If you are in a cooler climate, it is a must.

definately get 220v. More power, more efficient and as mentioned you can have the jets and heat on at the same time. It sounds like you are getting a good deal so pay the extra couple hundred bucks and get the 220v.

The Retreat is 110v but convertible to 220v.  There will not be a power increase but you will be able to run the jets on high and the heater at the same time.  Wiring for 220v from your house to your back yard can get spendy sometimes.  I would start out with it on 110v and if you decide that it's not sufficient, just switch over to 220v.

I don't know what part of the country you are in, but with the freight to Texas there is no way I could get close to $3500 for a Retreat.  The 6 month chemical cartridges ends April 30th, so buy today.  The new green bromine cartridges from Marquis will last at least 4 weeks in a Retreat.  Get set up right with the Bromine and Mineral cartridges from your dealer and you will have a very low maintenance tub.

I checked with an electrial contracter and was quoted $525.56 for a 220V connection/disconnect. I think he said it was a 38 foot run (underground). Should I go for it or check around? I have no electrical experience and don't have a clue on a fair price range.
