New some ideas for privacy
« on: April 22, 2006, 05:23:08 pm »
I'm putting my hot tub on a 10 X 15 deck attached to the house.. I've taken off all the existing railings and basiclly working with just a flat deck..Leaving enough room for a cover caddy, I'm looking for sites or ideas to create a privacy fence or something that would look decent around the deck or the tub for privacy.. If anyone has seen other sites, has pictures or can recommend 'how to go some ideas or possibilities.. it would be appreciated.  I've done a google search and even go to lowes etc for ideas but having a hard time... Would appreciate any places to look..  Thanks,

http://www.aandbaccessories.com is a company who's products we carry.  They make very high quality surrounds for spas.  There was another post within the last 2 or 3 weeks regarding this same question and there were some really good ideas in it.

Hope this helps!

I recently re-worked the railing on my deck surrounding the Hot Tub.  Basically, I used  extra high posts (6' above deck) and put in a two part lattice screen.  In the middle I continued the existing Railing line and put the lattice above and below with a railing capping the top.  Away from the Tub, I used just a normal rail and ballusters.

I only used this on part of the rail line ( tub covered in 3 directions including the house).

Hey maybe this might help....

Slip into your spa or hot tub and find yourself in the tropics,
near your favorite ski slope or your favorite vacation getaway!

Many people find that need a privacy enclosure
to go with their spa, hot tub or swimming pool.

Using our photographic spa / hot tub privacy screen
can give you that final touch.

Choose a picture from our gallery or create
your own theme with one of your favorite photos.

Just send us your photo and we will do the rest!

Our spa / hot tub privacy enclosures will give
you privacy and that view of your favorite
vacation spot!

Our outdoor privacy screens are made of UV
protected fabric and come with grommets and
easy to attach zip ties for quick installation.

They are available in a Semi-Private Mesh
(shown below) or in a Total Privacy Canvas fabric.

Standard sizes:  6' W x 3' H - $155.00
                       8' W x 4' H - $275.00

Custom Sizes are also available.

For me, many of the prefab accessories cost too much.  (Cedar gazebos are nice, but there's no way I want or can afford to spend $5k and up, that's just me.)

One nice idea I saw was 6' high fence with windowboxes at the 4' mark.  You can then plant these with vines, flowers and such and create some "natural" privacy.  You could shorten it down and do a similar thing on your deck.

Another option is to go with a pergola-type enclosure around the hot tub area.  (Open slat roof, corner posts, use anything suitable for surround - lattice, privacy screens, smoked plexiglass, etc.)

I am pouring a patio in a couple of weeks and contemplating the same ideas myself.  It might be worth a look here: http://www.wrcla.org/purchasing_cedar/cedar_retailers.htm It will tell you who the closest retailers are of red cedar.  There are a lot of options you can build yourself, a trip to Borders or Barnes and Noble to look through the Do It Yourself section might give you a lot of ideas.

One of these days I'll post some pictures.  I built panels using 4x8 sheets of lattice and 2x4 posts.  I planted some vines to grow up them.
