So you think you know your neighbor?
« on: February 18, 2007, 12:48:50 pm »
When I moved into my present home 3 years ago, one of the reasons I chose the house was because of the quiet and safe development it was in. I wanted somewhere for my 2 young girls to feel safe, and it was all that. All the neighbors were very friendly and we all get along. My neighbor accross the street was always outside taking care of his landscaping and washing his cars, sometimes he would come over and chat with the kids, he always went to work ina suit & tie, driving his black lexus. A nice neighbor.
He moved out a couple months ago, we were sorry to see him go, his name was Vincent.
Last week he called a board meeting of his investers together, and executed 3 of them, one by one, before killing himself.
Lesson, never feel safe.
To keep this hot tub related, I just sold an Aria, to a very nice couple, I think?

I hear ya Guzz!   We had cool neighbors, that lived next to us a couple of years ago. Well, they sold their house on account of our busy street(its a main artery) and moved 3 blocks away. They have currently,a 5 year old kid,and were afraid of him gettin hit by a car.. Anyways, they did a search of the neighborhood, for petophiles etc......and low n behold, theres 1 living 3 houses down from us,formerly next to them.  Rarely do we see the man come out of his house, and more strange,he has an 11-12 year old son living there.

As you stated, you can never be too sure bout people,or your surroundings.

Pretty close, but I can't afford to live in Greenville.

He is in an old farm house in Winterture.
The house is at least a 100 years old so its not extravagent.
He is surrounded by nothing but beautiful rolling hills and open space though.
Seems to be a great area.

Auto - Not to say anything but that sounds VERY similar to that guy they recently caught.  The boy "staying" with him had actually been held against his will.  The kid would often been seen playing by himself and had a lot of opportunities to escape (but did not do so because his captor had threatened to kill his parents if he exposed the guy).  Since the guy has a record, he probably is not allowed to have parental rights either so you may want to call your local police and see if everything there is on the up and up.

Hi Cowbell, I live about 10 minutes north of your brother!  It is really beautiful up here...just getting more crowded by the hour  :(
There is so much growth in this area it is unbelievable! Your brother is probably pretty much protected from that as the DuPont estates are huge.

And on the topic of who you think you know..I had a contractor come to remodel my kitchen. He was quite a character and I really liked his humor and innovative ideas. My son and husband thought he was weird as heck...and tried to get me to find someone else.
I was happy with the price and I just loved his British accent. He told me all about his girlfriend and their cool parrot, he was so interesting. ...After we signed the contract...he disappeared. I called and called but since no money exchanged hands, I finally decided to move on. About 2 years later I recognized his picture on the front page of the newspaper...He had murdered his girlfriend  :o right in front of her daughter!   :o

Boy I gotta tell you thats why I'm happy right here in boring old ND.  We are safe and sound! One of our favorite sayings up here is when it's -40 is, "it keeps the riff raff out". which it does.  There is no substitution for feeling safe in your neighborhood.

Someone I went to highschool with and hung out with almost daily (he was my friend's boyfriend) was on one of those To Catch a Predator shows.  He was even a sherrif and was corresponding with the 'under age girl' on his work computer during work time.  I guess it happened a couple years ago but I just heard about it from his sister when I went back home for Christmas.
