brominator v. ozonator?
« on: March 28, 2006, 12:37:36 pm »
the brochure for the new tub outside says it has automatic brominator and dynamic flow circulation system, and sunzone cd installation-ready.

uh, what's the difference in that and ozinators i've read about on here for last year?

could i be starting a new debate, a la ff/tp?

A brominaltor is system that delivers bromine into the tubs water.   Basically a basket either floating in the water or in-line that you put pucks of bromine in that disolve in the water.

An Ozinator makes and mixes ozone.

2 different things.

and sunzone cd installation-ready means it's not included an you'll need to pay extra for it.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Retired (mostly) from the industry after 33 years...but still putzing around with a consumer information website, and trying to sell obsolete owners manuals

A brominator will /should be able to deliver proper amounts of chlorine to sanitize your water.  Dichlor and Bromine are both considered very aggresive sanitizers.

Ozone, is a more passive system.  Many folks claim that an ozinator by itself cannot  sanitize the water effectivly.  It's a suplimental unit to a more rigorous saniiation program.  The people who have an ozone system typically report good results, but there are some who feel it's doens't make a difference.

Then on the other side of the coin,  There are a few kooks...um...er... folks who claim that there are tubs that use only an ozone system without any other sanitizzer and have no problems for years. (or so they claim).

Bottom line is (IMHO) Aothough there is some dispute over  , most folks who have one with a 24 hr circ pump report improved water quality.

Cal Spa markets a salt based bromine generator as a "brominator".

Hydropool is currently testing this technology with select dealers. I have had a tub on the floor for a month with the system.
