Dump/Refill What to use to clean
« on: March 22, 2006, 09:42:43 am »
I'm dumping and refilling and would like to know the best cleaner to use to wipe down the inside of the hot-tub.  Better to ask than to screw up my refill with some funky residue because I used the wrong thing. ::)

I would just use the Mr. Clean Magic Eraser with no chemicals.  Your spa shell should be non-permeable so the eraser should lift out any dirt.  If you feel the need to use a cleaner, I would suggest SoftScrub. :D

I took out my manual and it had a list of suggeted cleaners.  I used a cup of bleach and diluted it.  Cleaned all the surfaces and then rinsed and dumped the water.  I'm filling the spa now.

cappykitty,
If your water chemistry and sanitization method have been followed well, I don't see a need to use anything below the waterline.  I've not done anything to mine below the waterline and it looks like new.  At and above the waterline, I prefer a Tub Rub.  It works great and is easy. 8)

There are also spa surface cleaners- we use the one made by the good people who make Brilliance/Baqua.
It worked really good to get rid of the Baqua ring around the collar.
Mrs. Brewman is insistent on "cleaning" the surface at every water change, and since SWMBO has the power to make my life miserable, I just keep using that stuff, necessary or not.

My sales person told me to just wipe down with  IPA. I had no ring or gunk anywhere so that worked just fine.
I haven't heard anyone on here say to do that though?

I agree.  I have never used any chemicals to clean the spa.  A tub rub where necessary and maybe towel it down.

Same here, IPA= India Pale Ale.
One of my favorite beer styles, btw.

That IPA would have been much more fun,
but I may have never got my refill done.
Isopropyl Alcohol is what IPA stands for,
rubbing alcohol, nothing more  ;D

I didn't have any "yukkies" but I guess I thought if I'm going to refill I might as well give a good cleaning.

Wow...do I ever like the feel of fresh, clean water.  I wish there was a method to keep it that way without the use of chemicals.  Has anyone gone to a salt water tub?  Pros/cons??

That kind of IPA has a rather nasty aftertaste, I've been told.
