Marquis pumps
« on: March 15, 2006, 09:45:50 am »
A few weeks ago I posted about a problem I was having with one of my pumps.  It wouldn't come on in slow speed.  I called my dealer and told him about the problem.  My husband came home that night and turned it on with no problem.  Since then it's been working fine.

I forgot to call my dealer back and tell him all was well.  I got a message last week from the tech saying they were going to replace both pumps because they were having problems with some '05 models.

I did my weekly maintenance yesterday and the same thing happened again. I couldn't get pump 2 to come on in slow speed and pump 1 woudn't come on in high speed.  It seems to be a hit or miss situation.

I called the tech yesterday and said it concerned me to replace both pumps on a tub I've only had 6 months.  He said it was "kind of a recall situation". He said my tub has GE pumps and they aren't the best pumps.  They are replacing them with Aqua Flow pumps and they are better and more powerful.

Mendo or Stuart...know anything about this?

As a non-Mendo/Stuart person, I would say that if they are offering new pumps I wouldn't hesitate to let them give you new pumps.

If they are having "kind of a recall situation"  I would let them "kind of replace them."   ;)

GE is the initials for General Electric.

That's about it.  Hope this helps.

GE is an electric motor manufacturer ( among other things).    Aqua Flow is a company that buys electric motors and attaches pumps on the end of the motors.
Some spa companies use this as a marketing tool such as CalSpa with it's "Powered by GE".  Others private label theirs to disguise who they are using as with Hot Spring and their "WaveMaster" pumps.

It Depends on when your spa was produced as to a recall on pumps but the real thing to keep in mind is that they are replacing them at a cost to both your dealer and Marquis and really are doing so only because they feel it is in your best long term interest. Maybe someone else will correct me if I am wrong but I believe there are only 4 makers for pumps in the industry and that most makers use pumps from all of them or have at one time or another.

Oh Cappy...I am sensing that Panic Mode thing we tend to go into. It is so darn windy here today, I wouldn't even attempt to open my panel to see what my pumps are.... But as soon as we get below 50 MPH gusts, I'm gonna take a look...but I ain't in panic mode just yet  :-/
as long as they recognize a problem and fix it, it's not really a problem....right? ;)

Thank you salesdvl and mendo.  I know my dealer will stand by their product.  I was just curious because the tech told me the Aqua Flow was better and more powerful.  Should that mean I'll see more power in the water pressure or flow?

Term...you know I was teasing you... ;)

Exactly.

GE doesn't make pumps, only motors. And in some industries they are the best available. Just not in the pool and spa industry....
