I just want to say how sorry I am for the loss of your pet.  You didn't say whether it was a dog or cat (I'm assuming cat?)  It's so hard to loose a part of the family, and I think only pet lovers really understand the unconditional love that our pets give us.

Thinking of you.

My condolances Bill.. :'(  Put to sleep my dog of 17 years last year.  They really are a major part of the family.

Thanks, it was our cat Nikki, my first cat, I use to be a cat hater ,because of neighborhood cats, but she changed me . She would have been 21 in July, just a few months younger than our daughter.

Oh, before somebody asks, this was a picture when she was alive!  ;)  She frequently covered her eyes when she slept.   This was my first time going through this, my parents got a dog when I moved out, so I wasn't there when they put him to sleep at 17.

I, too, am sorry for your loss!  It is never easy to lose a loved one, and to me, pets are loved ones!

My Mother has a Yorkie who is going on 13 (this September) and I dread the day anything happens to him.  She will be inconsolable (sp?)!!!

I have a picture of Melinda and Nikki at less than a year, I'll have to find that and post it.

Funny, many of us when we were kids lived under the rule of thumb our fathers taught us that if it cost very much to have a vet help an animal out just euthanize it and get another...

Now I would spend thousands on my pets to keep them alive...they are a viable part of our family.  :-[

It helps having a Vet tech in the family who gets a discount where she works.

Cat in mall pet store in 1984 - $19
Cancer surgery for those without a discount $850
Having the employee Discount - Priceless.

We haven't gotten a replacement for our last pet - the loss was tough.

I think if we ever do get a pet, we'll get two of them, several years apart so that when one goes we'll still have the other to ease the pain.

One of our 'adopted kids' has a dog she brings over on a regular basis. Behaves better than her kids sometimes... It seems to get it out of my system that way...

Chas, I have to babysit my little brother and sister (a yorkie and a blue healer mix) when my parents go out of town.

That helps get the "puppy fever" out of my system!

I love pets, but I don't think it is fair that we have to lose them, too!!!

Oh well...no one ever said life was fair!!!

Bill,

I just wanted to send you my condolances on the loss of you cat.  I know how hard that is.  We lost our Schnauzer a couple of years ago after having her for 11 years and it was the hardest thing we had to go through.  People that don't have pets don't understand they are a part of the family and losing them is very difficult.
