Couple of neat features. I bought a new computer with it rather than upgrade.  It took me forever to get it on my network and for it to see my other computers and my printer, but it turned out that wasn't Vista's fault, it was the stupid pre installed Norton Internet Security program.

Buying it was a pain, the stupid little geek selling it was a pain, I just wanted to buy it and go. Finally had to tell the little 5h1t that I have been working on computers when his dad was still in Diapers.

The only way I'd take a new OS would be to buy a new computer.  I've heard too many horror stories of people trying to install a new OS on their existing machine.
I'm not even sure this PC I have has the nads to run Vista.  
 Hopefully by the time I get a new PC most of the bugs will be worked out of Vista.

Probably good advice.  Upgrades can frequently be a little dicey.  I was not prepared to risk my main PC that I use for my business.  Since my daughter left, I've had a empty computer desk, so I put the new PC there so my wife can use it while I'm working on mine.  I always have the top end PC in the house, so she thinks she does    I wasn't going to rush in but I have customers buying it now, so I've got to familiarize myself with it.

From Windows 3.1 through XP, when you upgrade you carry forward many problems developed over time that the upgrade keeps to remain backward compatible.  That does add some vulnerability (XP did not have a registry entry called RUN SERVICES - that many viruses look for, but if you did an upgrade from ME, 2000, or 98, that key was migrated up.)   There are some problems that at an expensive per hour charge, its not worth troubleshooting to a customer, just back up the data, and start over.

Working in the IT industry as I do, I find it rather ironic that my personal PC needs are as modest as they are.  Right now I'm sailing along just fine on a 4 year old Dell, with a 2.4GHz P-4, 512MB RDRAM, and a 120G hard drive.  Most of my home PC use involves the internet and email, and some very minor Word and Excel use.  
 I did take XP's service pack 2 upgrade, and had no trouble.  But I'm pretty sure that Vista wouldn't run on my PC with it's relatively small RAM.

I did see some pcs for sale with Vista and 512mb of RAM at Best Buy. Mine came with 1gb, I will probably eventually add another 1gb.

I see in my specs,that I have 64 bit.  Should I run Vista 64 bit,verses 32 bit? And Bill,do you have 2 open slots for mem? If not,it will cost ya a few bucks as you will have to scrap what you have now,to upgraDe to 2 gigs.

Stick with the 32 bit if your going to purchase now. Someday hopefully the 64 bit will be beneficial but that day isn't today.
