My 1st Meteorite Tonight
« on: March 05, 2006, 02:13:07 am »
I've been battling a cold for the last few days and decided to sit in the spa to relieve the coughing. About 1:55 AM I saw a meteorite. :O
First time I've seen one in the tub. I was looking southwest when I saw it. It was primarily white but I did see some bright green, too. Must be copper in the meteor.
I stuck around for awhile but that was the only one.
Just had to share!

Not a mountain lake? Then it's still a chemical soup!

When I go backpacking I usually make myself stay awake (in my bag, not in the cold) until I see at least one meteorite. It is magical every time.  :D

That's funny, I think my fiance saw the same shooting star! She had went out to the hot tub a few minutes ahead of me, around 2 am. Unfortunately I missed it... too bad because I've never seen one.

I've seen one or two from the tub. More frequently we see satellite or the ISS or shuttles.

I still enjoy every single "shooting star"  I was 30 when I first saw one, but the highlight was seeing 600 in one evening. I wish it was in the tub, but it was camping in Nov when it was below freezing.  I think it was 4 years before we bought the spa.

Ahhh, I remember that meteor shower - and I did watch part of it from my spa.  It was great!!!

Actually, it's a meteor, not a meteorite - unless you saw it impact earth.  Meteors do not hit earth, only meteorites do.

If you go to http://heavens-above.com/ you can see when things of interest are in the sky in your area.

http://spaceweather.com/ is another good site for sky watchers.
