well water or soft water?

I LIVE IN THE COUNTRY WHERE THERE IS NO CITY WATER. CAN ANYONE TELL ME IS IT BETTER TO FILL THE TUB WITH HARD WATER FROM THE WELL, LOTS OF MINERALS, OR SHOULD I FILL IT WITH SOFTENED WATER?  THANK YOU

Try both - fill the tub to three or four inches below your normal waterline with well water, and then finish filling with soft water.

Measure the Calcium hardness, and see how you did. You can adjust by draining and refilling, or adding Ca Hardness Increaser if you wind up too soft.

The top one foot of most tubs contains about half the volume of the tub.

Would it be a comparable deal to get one of those filters that goes on the end of the hose and just use the hard water? I don't know what good the pre-fill filters really are in that situation, if any?
(I'd considered buying one, just trying to figure out what they're useful for)

I'd get a new keyboard so that you can shut off the CAP LOCKS.  Aerate the well water using your old keybord.  Who cares about water quality when you have bad netiquette.  OK I'm really kidding.  I don't have an answer for your question.

Luckily, my well produces good water (few minerals or other impurities).

I suggest you take a sample of your water to any spa dealer for testing (should be free) .. you will learn the quality of your water, "hardness," etc.  Also, the dealer should tell you what chemicals (and what quantities) will be needed to make your water Ok for spa use.

I have seen many well water samples that require less initial treatment than city water.

That said, most well water I come accross in southern Ontario (Hamilton to Vaughan to Newcastle)is very high in TA and pH, and quite often calcium.

Have you had the well water tested by a pool or spa dealer?
