Ok.. I went and asked her for her source.....here is a link about this problem...

Beware....it is sickening!

http://ehso.com/ehshome/dustmites.php#2Where

House dust mites are microscope bugs that primarily live on dead skin cells regularly shed from humans and their animal pets. Skin cells and scales, commonly called dander, are often concentrated in lounging areas, mattresses, frequently used furniture and associated carpeted areas, may harbor large numbers of these microscopic mites. A typical mattress can contain tens of thousands of dust mites. Sick yet? Nearly 100,000 mites can live in one square yard of carpet. Ready to convince your spouse to start bathing regularly? Did you know a single dust mite produces about 20 waste droppings each day, each containing a protein to which many people are allergic. Yuck! The proteins in that combination of feces and skin sheddings are what cause allergic reactions in humans. Depending on the person and exposure, reactions can range from itchy eyes to asthma attacks. And finally, unlike other types of mites, house dust mites are not parasites, since they only eat dead tissue. Gross, but true.

Beds are a prime habitat (where 1/3 of life occurs). A typical used mattress may have anywhere from 100,000 to 10 million mites inside. (Ten percent of the weight of a two year old pillow can be composed of dead mites and their droppings.) Mites prefer warm, moist surroundings such as the inside of a mattress when someone is on it. A favorite food is dander (both human and animal skin flakes). Humans shed about 1/5 ounce of dander (dead skin) each week. About 80 percent of the material seen floating in a sunbeam is actually skin flakes. Also, bedroom carpeting and household upholstery support high mite populations.

Beware of buying a mattress from discount stores.  My wife’s cousin recently bought a mattress that came with bedbugs!  Everything in her house became infested and she had to throw out almost everything including all other mattresses.  There was also a news special report on this issue recently.

Agreed. Our experience was less nasty, it was just that the mattress broke down quickly. Lasted about 3 years.

I have a tempurpedic and I love it!  I've had it for about 4 years now.  We've never thought it was too hot.  When I bought it, we were going between  the sleep number and this one.  I decided on the tempurpedic because I wanted the adjustable option (like a hospital bed)  Hubby gets heartburn and it was easy to sit up.  I love being able to read, watch tv, and use the computer without have to set up a bunch of pillows.  The only thing I don't like is that we have a 2 matteress king bed and I have to buy xtra long twin sheets (which are hard to find just the bottom) and 1 king flat , so if I want a matching set, a lot of times I have to buy 3 sets of sheets and have waste.  I can't believe they don't make sets for these types of beds!

My sister has the sleep number and at first she liked it, but her husband said he rolls towards the middle.  He has his side set higher because he needs the support for his back, but then he rolls.

I used to sell waterbeds back in the 80's.  I LOVED my freeflow waterbed!  When I was 9 months pregnant, I was still sleeping on my stomach.  Unfortunatly we had to give it up because my hubby's back couldn't take it anymore.

Ruby,

Google  "Adjustable Bed Sheets". There are several places out there that do sell sheets specically for these beds.

here are a few I found:

http://doubleupsforbeds.com/prod/adjustable-bed-sheets.php

Good luck.  :)

Ruby, I also found them at Bed Bath and Beyond...but you need to shop when the kids are heading back to dorms in the fall...they will have a good selection. I used the Xlongs on my Mother's vegamatic..Craftmatic bed..I just gave that to my friend's mother and she is so thrilled!  anyway, I am off to cancel my order until I further investigate...thank you all so much for your input..and thanks Bill for letting this one stay on the board...maybe I sent some customers over the the other board, so that might be OK..

RUby,

I agree completely with you.  I wish we had bought a Tempurpedic instead of a sleep number. For the exact reasons you said. Hearing the Temp mattress got too hot in the summer made my wife go against it.

Thanks Drew & Boni!

Drew, I bookmarked those links to look at later, but just glancing, they look like  decent sites.  Now, can you find some with a HIGH thread count AND a pretty pattern?  ;).  Linens are my weakness and I have been looking for a pretty, high thread count (400+) set for the adjustable bed.

Boni- BB&B is where I have gotten them so far.  The problem is finding 2 bottom Twin XL's, 1 king top and pillowcases that all match in a pretty pattern!  Oh well, maybe I'll treat myself to a new set after this kitchen remodel is behind me!

I'm with Drew - except, I've got a  full motion, soft sided waterbed.

I love it, been sleeping on a waterbed for 30 years.  I highly recommend them.

Boni,  if you are still considering the Simmons, I have one that is not about 6 years old, and I love it. It is a pillowtop beautyrest. If I remember correctly, not all "beautyrest" mattresses are the same. I think they have different "levels" of quality/support......but I could be wrong.

When I bought mine, I went to a large retailer who also had a "factory outlet" down the street. As it turned out, I was able to find the mattress that I loved at the main store, then looked at the outlet, and saved about 40% by buying that same mattress and boxspring that dont match. When I say they done match, you literally have to be a few feet away to see the difference in the pattern, and I made a bed skirt anyway.

Whenever I sleep away from home, I miss my bed......

As I was taught in the mattress purchasing process, Sealy and Simmons both offer high quality products, but the type of support that they offer is simply different. One thing that Simmons advertises, and I'd say it is fairly true in my experience, is that motion is less transferred, so if your partner tosses and turns, you arent bothered. I used to have my dog jumping on and of the bed a couple times each night, and I definitely was happier after the new mattress.
The sales guy that I worked with on my first trip out was great. He had me try a couple of different Simmons and Sealy, and we determined that the Simmons category was better for me. Then he took me up the price point until I found one that was really comfy, but still something I'd pay for.

Thanks guys, I went back down and talked to my mattress guy..we spent some time discussing the info that I had discovered..and I decided to stick with my Simmons...I was worried about the pillow top because it is memory foam...he explained that there were different weights or densities...so I still liked how it felt and that will be my choice...God help me if it isn't wonderful, my husband will kill me! We agreed on it last night, but I drove him nuts after visiting that "other" forum!
I appreciate all your advice ;)

I also love my Tempurpedic. I was a bit skeptical at first as it seemed alot harder than a normal mattress, but the 90 day return policy sold me on trying it. Now 2 years later I would never own any other type. No back pains I sleep harder for the short time I do sleep, 6-7 hours. And my wife can not feel me leave the bed. I have never noticed it being hotter than any other mattress, but this is Northern Minnesota and at 29 below last night a little hotter would of been OK by me.
