crack on pipe that holds filter catrtridge  Help!
« on: February 20, 2006, 08:11:42 pm »
hey all...

My spa has developed a crack on the pipe that holds my filter.

when I take the retaining ring off to service the filter. this crack is at the very top of the pipe running horizontally about 3 inches.

I tried some epoxy from my local lowes and it worked for a couple weeks, but it is leaking again.

does anyone have any experience with waterproof putties, such as plast-aid?
not sure how else to fix...any ideas?
thanks very much in advance!!
John

There is a product called water putty- I've seen it at big box home improvement stores.  Maybe that'd help a bit, but my gut tells me that it'd just be another short term band-aid.  Maybe you have to have a pro replace the section of pipe.
I assume no warranty is in force.

If you can put a pic of it online, I might be able to suggest something.

I repaired a leak using plast-aid on my hot tub about 2 years ago and it has held great. I highly recommend it . The leak was on the seat of a 12 year old Hot Springs tub.

On my tub the parts that holds the filter just screws in and is very inexpensive to replace.

thanks for your help everyone...sorry but I'm not able to post a pic right now.
I'm gonna try the plast-aid, other wise it seems I'll have to replace whole "basket" assembly that holds the fliter.
