coleman and ozone questions

Still searching for the perfect spa, and have come across a couple of questions:

Here's my situation at the moment:

I'm looking at a Coleman 471, which has been one of the more comfortable for my partner and I in terms of seating and jets. The dealer sells LA spas and Coleman both, and in his LA lines, pushes the "ultimate mixing chamber" with 24 hr filtration heavily. The coleman models do not come standard with ozone, and he actually was discouraging me from being compelled to add one, as in his opinion, any non 24 hr continuous ozonator, without the mixing chamber, is not really doing all that much for you. (He likes Baqua, and that is probably another can of worms) I think he was really trying to be helpful, but now I'm really confused.....I have pretty sensitive skin, so if spending a few hundred more dollars really does decrease chemicals, I will- no problem.

Will a non-continuous ozonator really make a difference in chemical usage? Is the quality of the unit going to vary that much between companies? By his logic, NO ozonator that does not run 24 hr is useful, but it seems very few companies are doing that.

Any Coleman owners out there who do or dont use ozone with comments?

I was also looking at hotsprings, and I know that ozone is standard in those now (though I'm looking at an '05). Those are continuous, yes?

And lastly- how does $6500 sound for a Coleman 471 with lifter, step, some chemicals and delivery? (No ozonator- not sure of that cost)

My ozonater works for 8 hours a day in winter and 4 in summer and I would not be without it. It helps to maintain my water between uses. Requiring me less to go out and add chlorine.

I have a Coleman 470 w\02. I am very happy with the tub. No problems at all...

As far as the ozone it runs on clean cycles total 6hrs per day. i have nothing to compare its usefulness to. the water is fine.

Price paid was 7K last October.

Anne,  Having ozone is better than no ozone at all,  If you choose to use Baqua ozone does not do much.  we sell Baqua, but I honestly feel Ozone and Dichlor is the way to go.  we let people make up their own minds, but the bAQUA  can be more more difficult to keep balanced and the water clear.  I have customers who love it and Have just as many that don't.  Back to the ozone.  you have the option to program the coleman to filter as long as you want.  the factory default is 6 hrs per day.  if you want a little more time for the ozone to run you could bump it up to 8 hrs.  the ozone should be in the 200-300 dollar range for a good quality CD ozonator from your dealer.  you can find them online for under 200 if you want.  6500 is a good price for a 471 with those accesories.  do you know if that is for an 05 or 06?  that is a great price for an 05 and especialy if it is an 06.  we are currently at about 7200 for an 06 471 with accessories.  the 06 got a backlit color waterfall and main light standard, otherwise no changes.

from all the posts I've read (and I've gone through about 65 pages of the info on this site   ), ozone IS helpful in a) reducing chemical useage and b) keeping water quality higher, EVEN IF NOT RUN CONTINUOUSLY 24/7. The ONLY negative thing I've seen is that it can help speed the deterioration of the spa cover. Well, that and it costs a few pennies extra to operate due to electricity...
I will be purchasing an ozonator for my tub, and if my dealer wants to try to steer me clear of them again, I'll just give my business to someone who wants it. I also do NOT want to be soaking in a constant heavy broth of chemicals, though I know SOME residuals of sanitizer are necessary..
By the way...if you can find an '05 model for significantly less money than the '06, and would be HAPPY with the '05, I say save the extra cash and GO FOR IT.

I have the Coleman 461 Deluxe without the ozonator. I plan on putting an ozonator on and for the cost of $200.00 through my dealer I'll do it probably before the end of the year. Anyway mine is the 05 model and I paid 5700.00 for mine without steps and without ozonator. So 6500 is a very good price for that model. I originally started out with the factory settings of 6 hours per day...but since I'm in my hot tub ALOT (4-5 times per day) we've since bumped that to 8 hours per day...4 in the afternoon and 4 in the early am hours.

Hope this helps with your questions. The coleman hot tub is a very good choice I know I am truly happy with mine!

I have a Coleman 705 I purchased about a year ago.  I think it was $7400.  That included the set up and a cover lifter that is attached to the tub.  Prices are negotiable and I paid cash so it helped in the negotiation.
It has an ozonator that runs when it cycles.
Overall, I am extremely happy with the tub and ozonator.  The combination of the ozonator and the Nature 2 means we do almost nothing and our water is always clear.  I shock with 1T of chlorine every 2 weeks.
It is very easy on the skin and no chemical smell. I check the water the day after I shock and most chlorine is gone.  I change the Nature 2 every three months rather than every 4 months.
By the way, we haven't noticed much of a change in our electric bill at all - about $15 or so is about all it seems to be although it is hard to measure accurately.
