It will work. N2 does not need MPS to do anything. You can use just dichlor if you choose. Like many, I use a little dichlor after use and shock with MPS or a combo of dichlor and MPS.
I have tried the MPS before use and shock with dichlor but did not work for me. Water would inevitably cloud up.
