Question on di-chlor

I'm sure this is in a post somewhere but I can never seem to find anything when I search.

I went to my local pool supply store this am and asked for di-chlor.  He gave me a product by Omni called Algae Destroyer.  It says, "sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione dihydrate 99.0%".  Is this what I want?

Yes.  

The packaging seems to be marketing as  a pool shock, so be careful with  the dosage it may say on the bottle.

Sodium dichloro-s-triazinetrione dihydrate 99.0%  is Dichlor and the same % of active ingreadients as my Spa 56 that I use from Leisure time.

Yes, but do you really want to put something called "Destroyer" in your new tub and soak in it ?  It will do the job, but I'd look for another brand with a kinder gentler name.

I just spent $12.47 on this stuff...so yes, I'm using it.  Although you did make me stop and think for a minute...next time I'll find a "kinder, gentler name" to soothe you and me...LOL!!

If so, disregard the dosage. You're skin will fall off.  

But it's Dichlor. Just use "spa doses" as discussed here, don't dump 2 lbs in.

No, I was just teasing.  It's fine to use -- just in tsp and Tbls, not pounds or cups.

For how many pounds.  I'm finding $4-5 a good price and can get closer to $4 when buying a 5# bottle.

My local Hotsprings/Cal dealer sells this one for $24 for $5, which is hard to beat around here.

My thinking is 2 ounces is a good amount for a shock done every week or two.   I usually put in about a tablespoon or two when  I get out.   2 ounces isn't going to hurt anything, but just I'm betting you will notice a strong chlorine smell and your levels will be real high for quite a few hours.

I don't know what kind of sanitizer routine you are on, but the range for daily doses discussed on this forum seems to be 1/2 tsp to 1 Tbs per user per half/hour. (I use 1.5 tsp/user/30 min -- that gets my 525 gal tub up to 5 ppm), so 2 oz would be a lot for a daily dose, but about right for a shock treatment.

No keep it. It's exactly what you want. It's packaged as a pool shock, so the directions are going to be geared towards a 10,000 gallon pool. but it is EXACTLY the same as the fancy smancy overprices Spa bottleing. That's it.

Listen to folks like WMcall and Drpsa (except for magnets  : )  - sorry couldn't resist   - for dosages, as well as all  the other chem pros here....  and you'll be fine.   I am just a dilatante.

Cappy, I don't know if you have a Sams nearby but I picked up a case of Dichlor that had 16 packages each of one pound for a total of $26. (for 16 lbs of dichlor).

My jetsetter is pretty small so I will have sanitizer to spare for a very long time.
