I just bought the Sundance Maxxus. I am wondering if anyone knows if I need a 50 amp gfi of 60 amp. If I need the 60 amp then will I have to use # 4 wire instead of #6 thhn.

Where are you from? If it gets cold, you'll want 60 amp, as this will allow you to run 2 of 3 pumps and keep heater on. If you choose 50 amp, you'll lose the heater with 2 pumps running.

Thank you. Thats what I needed to know. Unfortunately then Ill have to run # 4 wire.

How long is your run? �NEC allows #6 wire on a 60 amp feed, unless you have to derate to allow for voltage drop on a long run. �Wouldn't hurt to go with #4 and switch to #6 for the whip from your shutoff to your spa.

You can do a 50 or 60 amp breaker, you just need to notify your installers if you go with the 50 so they can set a jumper on your control board. I believe the Maxus comes equipped for a 60 amp breaker.

If you are running #4 wire, just remember that you will need #6 wire to run into the spa.

I have a 2005 Maxxus and ran #6 all the way with a 60amp circuit. The total run from the main breaker box to the tub (including the sub panel) is appox 80'. Unless you have an extemely long run #4 is kinda over kill. But, thats all up to your electrician and codes.

I would reccomend going with the 60 amp circuit if you can. I live in Central Coast California and the temps are mild, but, I find that we always end up running 2 pumps while soaking. Wife sits at one end while I'm at the other.

An 80' run should be OK for 60 amp, as long as your locality says so. Upsizing never hurts, but that could add quite a bit of cost to the project. I used #4 on my basement Sub panel, and feeding that stuff thru 75 feet of conduit wasn't much fun. Broke one fish tape in the process. And that was with me using the electrical lubricating goop.
