What is MPS?  Is it just another brand of shock?

Monopersulphate, an oxidizer that eliminates organic matter in the water.

MPS is the actual chemical.  A brand name would be something like LeisureTime Renew.

cappy,

Your bromine is fine...it should be between 1 & 2 with the frog......I would suggest turning it down to 2 and adding once a week between shocking about 3 teaspoons of di chlor as it will turn into bromine salt and keep your water nice.

I'm not getting this "shock" thing.  Should I shock once a week with 3-4 oz of shock OR shock after heavy usage...and what is heavy usage?

Let's say we use 3-4 times a week, 2-3 people but usually 2.  What would you say my weekly routine should be?  Right now I'm shocking once a week, when would you shock more than that?

Mendo, you're saying do the shock once a week AND add di-chlor once a week?  On different days?

One thing to consider.  Different brands of non chlorine shock AKA MPS may require different application rates.  For instance Leisure Time Renew which is buffered needs twice the amount of a non buffered brand.

My ususal routine is to shock once per week, with MPS according to the instructions on the package.
I'm using Brilliance Bromine and their shock.
If we use the spa more than usual, I'll add a small extra shock mid week.
