Color Fading-Is it New or Used
« on: November 05, 2005, 12:09:14 am »
My new tub came and I noticed allot of discoloration in the areas where water was sitting/gathered.

My shell color is Eclipse and the model is Chinook.
Kind of a speckled blend of black-gray-white which turned pinkish in the faded areas.

Does this sound like a new, used or damaged shell ?

My dealer says that this is normal with this particular color to shows signs of discoloration.

Hmmmmm

For what its worth, I agree. It does sound odd.
Who manufactures it? I googled eclipse, chinook and "hot tub" but couldn't find a manufacturer.

Not a mountain lake? Then it's still a chemical soup!

Eclispe is the shell color (it is also a 110v portable spa by Dreammaker), Chinook is the model. The only info I could find was it is a Spa and sauna dealer in Ottawa. Not much help.

Chinook Spas & Saunas

Ottawa, ON

This is probably just a dealer that coincidently has a similliar name to your model.

Shell discoloration can   be caused by an empty tub sitting  outside, uncovered  in the sun.   Low end manufactuers have been known to do this, and a dealer could also be responsible and, of course if it is used, then the previous owner.

Perhaps some chemicals, or cleaner was left in the tub  well and not completely drained and left to sit and pool in the seating area?

If this tub was sold to you as new, I 'd wouldn't accept it.

Good luck and let us know how this plays out.

Discoloration like that can be caused when the shell is formed and stretched particulally thin at that point causing the color to fade.

I would definately demand another spa. Do NOT let the salesperson off the hook that easily. If you purchase a brand new spa, it should look brand new. Its just that simple.

Mine is kinda "light coloured" like that around the sharpest bend behind the filter well.
I first saw it and thought "Hey, the colour's faded" but took about 2 seconds to realize what it infact was.
