Is there a better faster way to drain the tub than just connecting a hose to the main drain? Especially during the cold/snowy winter months. What method are most folks using?

How about a sump pump.  Home Depot sells cheap ones.

Put your hose in the tub like you would to fill.  Turn water on until air out of hose and straight water running into tub.  Turn water off and disconnect at faucet, run hose out, and voila- water will siphon out of tub in less than half the time as using the drain spigot.

I do same as above cept I hook second hose up to first hose already draining, after full of tub water bring both ends back to the tub holding them off the ground to keep water in hose. Put one end in tub and run other end out by other hose and viola second suction started. Or I use my pump but it is a transfer pump and it is fast but noisy.

A piece of pool hose works very fast.  Just prime it with the jets and sink it to the bottom with a weight.

I am a lucky one and have 1 1/2" drain and can drain my tub in about 1/2 hour.  But my buddy uses a hose and suction method as discribed above.  But he was mentioning gettinga  cheap sump pump.  That would drain it very very fast.  Not a bad idea.

A sump pump will drain it in about 10 minutes.  $30-40 at Home Depot.

The guy that moved my hot tub used a really big hose(maybe a 3" diameter or so) to siphon it out, he primed it with a jet. Kind of goofy, but it drained really quick.
It's all about da bubbles!

I just take cap off valve and open then let her rip.  Drains in about 10 minutes.
