Very hard water.....
« on: September 19, 2005, 12:10:10 pm »
We have very hard water in our house.  Over time we get mineral deposits on faucets, etc.  What should we add to the spa to prevent any damage to it from the hard water?  Thanks.  :)

I have very hard  water as well.  HS says that you can add 25% softened water to the tub.  That can help.  The major problem will be high Ph and alkalinity.  I usually lower the Ph (and the alkalinity as a result) slowly over the course of a week or two after a water change.

stain and scale control, metal gone, etc.

A certain amount of hard water is good for the spa, UP TO 150PPM, too hard and water can cloud because hot water does not hold calcium like cool water.

Iron and copper will also be chelated by the stain and scale control. if staining in bathtub, sinks, or dishwasher is present, use 1/4 cup stain and scale on initial fill, then use a maintenance dose once per week. no shocking for 24 hrs. on initial fill.

How about "Spa Defender" by leisure time spa.  Does that work ok?

Spa Defender is a stain and scale product that will help protect your equipment and is good to use on a regular basis.  Cheap Insurance.

LeisureTime Metal Gon is a sequestering agent and should be used when you change your water.
