WHAT IS MPS??
« on: September 13, 2005, 10:34:42 am »
I have just tried Bio brand Spa Shock Oxidizer. It contains Potassium Peroxymonosulfate 31%. Is that what the board is calling MPS , or is MPS something else.
I have been shocking with dichlor only and have a odor when the cover is lifted. I shocked with this and the odor is almost all gone but not completely. I still use dichlor 1tsp per person after soaks. I will shock again with this next week and see if it will finish off the odor.    My tub has HS ozone.  Thanks

I know MPS is an 'oxidizer' so I would guess that what you have is MPS.

That is MPS.  It seems most bottles list the chemical name that way, so I'm not clear on why people refer to it as MPS on these boards, other than to avoid initials commonly associated with "women's problems".  My bottle of  "Non-Chlorine Shock" says the same thing but with 45% MPS, so I'm guessing yours is buffered so it doesn't affect pH so much, or contains some other goodies like a little dichlor or clarifier.
