Whic Dichlor is better?

Trying to decide between two different brands of dichlor.  The both have the same active ingrediants:

ACTIVE INGREDIENTS:

SODIUM DICHLORO-S-TRIAZINETRIONE DIHYDRATE ….. 99%
INERT INGREDIENTS ……………………………………………. 1%

One provided 55% available chlorine and the other 62%.  What does this mean, is the 62% product better?

I have an HS Vanguard and use the dichlor my dealer sells. That way I know I have the right one. Can't go wrong buying from the dealer. This is the only chemical he sells. The less you have to fool around with chemicals the better.

I disagree, just because your dealer sells it does not make it better.  I like to be a knowldgeable consumer.

Dichlor does come in various strengths - the higher the available chlorine, the better. The 62% will give you a higher residue per measure than the 55%. If you can get the 62%, you theroretically can use less to get to your chlorine PPM.

Thanks, I am running out of the free stuff I got with my tub and my dealer sells the 62% stuff so I will go buy a big bottle from him.

The literature from my Jacuzzi dealer says,

"It is recommended that you use spa chlorine and not swimming pool chlorine.  Because of the high tempaertures associated with hot tubs, swimming pool chlorine has a very short life.  Spa chlorine is concentrated, therefore you will only use a small amount, and it is designed to withstand the high heat so it is more effective."

Could the 55% be the pool chlorine and the 62% be the spa chlorine?

I believe Doc sells both - I bought the 62% from him - 5 lbs for $25.00 or so IS A BARGIN!!! 10 lbs. an even BIGGER BARGIN!!!! Get the order up to $60.00 and shipping and handling is free.

Pool chlorine is either sodium hypochlorite (bleach), calcium chlorite or trichlor - you can use dichlor, I've noticed some "shocks" are made from it but at least around me it's not popular.

The stuff Doc sells 5 lbs for $25 is 97% active ingredient, I think it is for wooden hot tubs.  The 99% stuff is $50 for 5 lbs, it actually cheaper by the pound if you buy the 2 lb package.

"active ingredient" is completely different than "available chlorine".

Which one is more important? What would you recommend from the list below.  

99% active 62% available chlorine
99% active 55% available chlorine
97% active 62% available chlorine

Any one of them will work as well as the other.  The differences will not be noticable.  Dichlor is dichlor.  It can be used in a spa or a pool.  Trichlor only for pools.

Sounds like I should buy the 62% percent from Doc website.  His stuff is 97% active and 62% available chlorine.  It does not seem to be worth the extra money (almost double) for 99% active and 62% available chlorine.  I did not notice the 62% avaialbe on Doc's website at first because I thought it was only for wooden hot tubs.

The difference between 97% active and 99% active is so small you wont be able to tell any difference, but the 99% has slightly less bbyproducts.

I changed the line abour wooden hot tubs to "This granular chlorine (sodium dichlor) is especially recommended for wooden hot tubs (perfect for all type of spas as well)." Hopefully this will make is more clear  

The biggest difference between the two "brands" of chlorine we offer is the BRAND NAME. The more expensive is a name brand, while the other is more of a generic brand.

Also, chlorine prices have risen dramatically this year since the gonverment has stoped the Chinese from dumping in this country at artificially low prices. Leisure Time raised their price about 30% earlier this year, while the All Clear has yet to raise their price.

Go with the 5# container of AllClear from Doc......the container is excellent......nice wide mouth and a great built-in handle.  I use my old containers to put MPS and soda ash in.  Plus the AllClear is 62%......
