vegas help
« on: November 29, 2006, 10:35:03 am »
Well I booked a flight on the weekend just because it was so cheap.  I got flight for 59$ return.  Total bill for two travellers was 122$

I stayed two years ago on a cheap package that landed me at the stratosphere.  It was to far out of the way and in a shady part of town.

So, because I got the flight for cheap I was looking at staying at a nicer place.  Oh, and it is also my fifth wedding anniversary.  I chose vegas as a suprise for my wife, because I know how much she loves me checking out beautiful woman.  Maybe this time, she may just order me a date for the night as a present to show how much she loves me.  zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... Sorry, drifted away for a miniute.

So my question is, what hotels do you recommend.  I have been looking at treasure island, New York New York and Flamingo.  Bellagio, venetian, and Wynn are slightly out of my price range, by alot.  Ceasers is closer but I would still like to book a little cheaper so I have more money to tip the dancers,  oops I mean to have fun while down there.

Any comments

I stayed at  Madalay Bay. (Down on the other end of the strip)  I thought it was great. It was next to the Luxor, and a few other nice places.  It had some great resturants, pool, shopping and great casinos and was very classy without the vegas tack that some places have.

I would also recomend, if your looking for other activites while in vegas,  the helicopter tour  from Paypalon Tours over the Hoover  D@mn and down into the Canyon was amazing.  :)

I've been to Vegas a few times. The last 3 times I stayed at Luxor, NYNY and Excalibur (with kids that time). I really liked the first two as far as the hotel/casino and also stayed at teh Mandalay once which is right there and it's awesome. HOWEVER, I've also stayed at Bally's and Caesers and the thing I REALLY liked about those was the fact they were much more centrally located and you do walk a LOT unless you're the type to just camp out at the BJ table (blackjack). I would look into them along with Paris, Flamingo, Mirage & Aladdin; your feet will love you if you stay away from the hotels on the ends of the strip like the Luxor or Mandalay (as much as I REALLY like them).

I'd recommend a hotel Mid strip- like the Mirage- it's not the cheapest place out there, but it's very convenient.  As you found out the Stratosphere is on the far end of the strip and in a rather ratty area.
Mandalay Bay, the Luxor, and Excalibur are on the other end- very nice places, but getting from one end of the strip to another can be a long trip- especially if you're walking.

The Flamingo is pretty mid strip- and I think you can often find pretty good rates there.  I've not stayed there myself though.

I would stay mid strip.  In May we stayed at the Mirage and really enjoyed the location.  We also really liked our stay at Caesars.  We stayed at NYNY a few years ago and we weren't too impressed - probably one of the worst pool area's in Vegas (not sure if you were planning on swimming) but the casino is a lot of fun....small but fun and lively with a lot of young people (at least when we went it was).  I have never stayed at TI but it seems like a young and lively place, it's right next to the Mirage, but kinda seemed out of the way to me (for some reason).  We have also stayed at the Flamingo a couple of times and that's kind of like a Holiday Inn type place (rooms need a little help), but one of the best pools on the strip (behind Mirage and Mandalay Bay of course).

This is your lucky day. I checked, and they apparantly have rooms still available.

If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

But that's off the strip a bit and if you want to leave the hotel

Hmmm, good idea.

It's vegas - there are boobies everywhere!   I bet you  couldn't  swing a dead cat in vegas without hitting  boobies. Hooters is out of its leauge there.

Only 1/2 a block.

Yeah but that ½ block to get to "the strip" but then its at the end of the strip so any walking is a haul. My feet say no but the rest of me says maybe (assuming my wife isn't going as her response would be a simple stare at such a suggestion).

A regular city block or a Vegas block?  Vegas blocks can be deceptively long.  Walking past the Bellagio seems to take forever.

Hell, walking from one hotel to the hotel next door is such a hike I suggest a backpack with food and water for the trip. Besides the hike, it's either 120 degrees, or below 35 with 40 mile per hour winds whipping up sand storms....This is why I either drive to Vegas, or have a very large cab fare fund...
