Lookin' for Towel Hooks for Outdoors
« on: August 29, 2005, 11:38:23 am »
Anybody have ideas or sources for towel hooks to screw into the wall for outdoor use? They'll be used on my screened-in porch. I see plenty of undersized chrome hooks at Lowes and Home Depot but I'm afraid they'll rust out.
I'm looking for large hooks so towels won't slip off, that's not going to corrode after a season or two. Of course, preferably inexpensive but sturdy. ::)

Go with brass if you are worried about corrosion.  Avoid the wroght iron desings.  And usually,  most of the corrosion one might see would be from the screws used to attatch the hooks.

Google "Soild brass hooks" and I am sure you will find what you are looking for.

I use large white plastic self screw bathroom hooks, any hardware store or even dollar store should have them.  We have only had the tub since spring but we have had the hooks outside for the kids for a few years, one has broke so far.

If you are going to use brass hooks, I suggest something in the Baldwin line.  They won't be cheap, but they will stay polished brass, supposedly for a lifetime.  There is an internet dealer that sells Baldwin at 40-50% off - do a Google on "Baldwin Brass"

On the cheap, the plastic hooks are a better bet.

I bought a board with 4 pegs for about $5 at Home depot.  Stained it to match the deck and mounted it on the rail by the spa.  Works great.

I bought antique looking nickel hooks at Lowes for about $3ea.  I brushed them with 5 coats of clear poly.  They've been outside in elements for 13mo now and still look great.
