Ozonator question

Ok gang..here's the scoop I want to add a ozonator before winter...as you all know I use my hot tub 4-5 times a day 7 days a week...and I don't think the winter is going to be any different (unless some miracle should happen in the next 3 weeks btw I have another dr lined up in case I don't like the pain specialist or my dr's decision) but....here is my problem, after much discussion between hubby and the dealer, hubby is reluctant to put one on as we understand that it makes the cover discolor. is there any truth to this?

Ozone that isn't absorbed into the water off gasses into the tub and may cause the cover or headrests to discolor or deteriorate. But so can the constant fumes from bromine or chlorine

A couple of things to think about though - with you using your tub as often as you do - it probably won't get to be too bad. How does your tub handle the interruption of the "filter cycle"?  My tub turns off the ozonator for 40 min after I run a pump, if yours does the same you may not be getting the full benefits of ozone. Maybe you can run ozone during the "off hours", but that would depend on if filter cycles can be customized - again my tub runs for so many hours at 12 hours apart even though I have a circ pump.

If you really want ozone  - I'd say go for it.

The Coleman ozonator only runs during filter cycles. If the jets are turned onto high speed during this time, the ozone will turn off and will not resume for 30 minutes.

Vinny is correct.  Ozone, along with other chemcals such as chlorine and bromine, can discolor the underside of your spa cover.  It is more of a bleaching than a discoloring.

Ok gang..you answered my question thank you. Just an update...I've talked to hubby again about it last night and we've decided to add the ozonator in the near future, don't know when but hopefully soon..I'm thinking that hubby is talking next spring adding the piece of cement that we are missing and going ahead with the rest of the patio area....and he is going to extend the spa room to accomidate a bigger spa later on...we just buy a spa and already he's talking about upgrading! Anyway..for spahappy's info it'll be either the 470 or 471 I like the deeper seats they are now adding.  If we don't add the ozonator this fall we will add it next fall for  this fall we will add 2 more extra pre-filters and another big filter to rotate between the two.

My biggest ozonator challenge is that it won't run when the water temp is 2 degrees or more over the set temp.  I have been keeping the spa at around 100 and the summer heat and the cover made it hard to keep the water right.  I used a rolled up towel to prop up a corner of the cover and it has worked well.
