21 year olds don't buy spas do they?
« on: August 07, 2005, 11:38:15 am »
Last night was the first night in months cool enough to start a fire in the firepit and cook "mountain pies". Our daughter invited her two friends over who had spent the day at the Ohio State Fair.  The young man, trying to be polite struck up a conversation about the hot tubs he had seen at the fair knowing it would interest me.
He started out by mentioning, "Did you see that spa with the four corner fountain?"   It was late and I wasn't interested in being polite so I just blurted out, without thinking, "Isn't that the dumbest thing you have ever seen?"  Of course he had to reply, "I thought it was cool"  It kept getting worse, I tried to counter with, "At least it wasn't as bad as that spa that the entire front of the tub is a waterfall".  Of course he liked that too.  He then told me he was going to get a 8-10 person spa with a flat screen TV.   It was late, I was tired, I recommended he check out thermospas and went to bed.

Kids.

When I was 21, I couldn't even afford to stay in  hotel with a spa, let alone buy one.  Now that I'm almost twice that, my toys, house and oasis of relaxation in my back yard would lead me to believe I have reached utopia, but in reality, I would give it all back along with my right arm to be 21 again.

When I was in my 20's I knew it all! I was going to be rich, have a couple of houses, solve all the world problems, ... you name it.

Now in my 40's, I realize that everything I thought I knew in my 20's IS NOT going to happen.

At 21, I was married and out of the house, my wife and I were self sufficient and although both of our parents helped us occasionally, we did what was needed to do. SOME kids today have it so good that they can afford anything.

Hot tubs these days seem to be the popular "buy". My parents never even dreamed of one, I have wanted one for a while and finally was able to afford one and my boys are living with it. Same with central air, home theater and high tech computers. You name it, it'll be the latest rage and they and future generations will have it.

But it ain't all that bad, think about it ... having our children supply us with toys that we can use and not have to up keep! :D

In the 6 years I've been working here, I've sold 3 spas to people in their late 20's.  Most of them get the cheap spas the first go round, we try to get them when they need a new spa in a few years.

I'd say that 95% of our customers are over 40.

Oh, I've had a lot of them fill out credit applications only to be denied.  One 20 year old could not imagine why his application had been turned down:

"Just last week, I bought two 4-wheelers and a new truck." ::) ;D

two words:

trust fund

if he drives a $45,000 car, probably. If he drives a $15,000 car probably not.

if he drive a $1500 car, don't let your daughter in it.

Does a 21 year old have a place to put a hot tub? I think that's more the question.

Well, I'm 21 and just bought a 2001 monte carlo in cash, cost me 10800, but insurance is over 5000. put some 18" rims with sport tires= 1600, only had it for one week now. that 10800 could've got me an optima fully loaded i guess. well better really with my discount. 8) ;D

Just don't put some oversided chrome wing that looks like it belongs on an Indy Car on it.  That and spinning hub caps, and I'll have to come out to Bismark to have a discussion with you.

I did pass a 93 Plymouth Voyager this morning on the highway that had 13" rims and tires that stuck out 12" passed the body and a big chrome wing on the rear roof.  That was only the 2nd time I wish I had a camera phone.
