Scum Water Line..can't find last post
« on: July 09, 2005, 09:57:05 pm »
Hi and thanks for advice, cannot find the last post on this.

Just replaced old spa with new Jacuzzi 385 and shell is smooth & light color, getting bad greasy yellow water line, much worse than ever before.

Using Bromine now & all chem levels are proper, filters quite large and brand new.

My Questions:

1.  Any difference between Bromine & Chlorine with respect to scummy water line?

2.  What is the enzyme product mentioned in previous post?

3.  Any other suggestions (other than showering before using spa) to prevent this?

Thanks again!

--Not sure, one of the experts on the board can help you with this one.

2. What is the enzyme product mentioned in previous post?

--Stain & Scale Control (I use mine once a week)

3.  Any other suggestions (other than showering before using spa) to prevent this?

--Make sure you have no lotions or sprays on yourself prior to entering the spa.

I am new to the hot tub scene.  I had alot of water and scum problems when I first got the tub.  After 1 month I changed the water and no more problems and NO more scum!

You said all chem levels are good. Does that mean Calcium Hardness too?

I hade problems when I first filled my tub and after my first water change.

Both solved after I adjusted my Calcium Hardness. I needed to increase mine.

I use the approach that I want to add the least amount of chems to my water as possible.

I do not use foam away, enzyme control, stain and scale control or water clarifier.

I only use Dichlor, PH /up/down, Calcium Hardness increaser or alkaline increaser.

I'm still a rookie by all means but am doing very well.

Bromine or Chlorine ---- no difference

Stain and scale control - while important - has nothing to do with scum line!!

Biogard makes a product that is called "natural spa enzyme" that will reduce your scumline

Yes, showering will help becasuse a lot of that scum probably comes from the products that people are putting on to "moisturize" their skin(lotion and oil)
People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they're not on your road doesn't mean they've gotten lost.

We have been using Biogard Natural Spa Enzyme for about 4 weeks, no scum line at all now.  It says you can use this product with all chemicals.  You just add once a week.  Hope it works for you.   :) :) :) Lynnette

I realized how cutthroat the hottub business was when I spent the whole week wet testing tubs and wound up with the jacuzzi j365 after much deliberation.  The electrician sent by jacuzzi to hook p the 220 started pitching Vita Spa even though he worked at leats for the day, for jacuzzi.  To satisfy my curiosity I checked out vita spa and found the controls to be flimsy, the mister a gimmick, and the overall performance not as good as jacuzzi.  In the end it was between HS and jacuzzi and I can't wait to get off work as my tub went in today and is heating up.
