cleaning out sand/dirt

What do others use to clean out dirt or sand that enters the spa on your feet?  I have a pool near by and the deck recently had quite a bit of sand on it -- so a fair amount has transferred into the spa - even though I put a bucket at the bottom of the stairs with water in it  :-/

we usually make sure our feet are very clean before we get in the tub...usually have a bucket of water beside the tub and we also have extra towels out there

The best suggestion I can come up with is to trade it in on a Hydropool spa that comes standard with a built in floor vacuum to remove this sort of debris!

I like the Paradise Vac the best - one moving part, no pumping, non-electric.

Next to that, a simple siphon works great. Get a PVC fitting to connect a short length of pvc pipe to a short hose and you can remove the sand from the tub easily.

glue a section of 3/4" pvc pipe in one end, and thread a garden hose to the other end and you have a great 'econo vac.'

I have this problem too. Being pro-active with preventative steps  to stop sand from getting into the tub is a must. However, once the sand is in there, I find it a pain.

I puchased a Polaris Spa Wand from my dealer. Simply put, it's a long tube with nozzles that uses suction from drawing the long handle in and out. It sucks up the sand accumulated in the spa. It has a metal mesh screen filter doo-hickey to trap the sand in the wand and not spit it back out of the tube.

It works pretty good. I'm glad I have it.

We use a little hand-held gizmo called a Grit Gitter - or something like that.  We got ours at the dealer, but I've seen others post that it's less expensive on-line at Doc's site...

I make my kids fish them out.  99% chance they brought it into the tub - 100% chance they'll take it out!

course it's better than holding them by the ankles dipping them in the tub upside down and telling them to "Ok Suck!"
