Hm... For a new topic, I have 'Start new topic' at the top right of the page (above all the posts).  To reply, I have 'Reply' at the top and bottom of each post when I'm reading one.

Is this what you're talking about?  I don't see anything at the left side...

when a new reply to an existing post there is the word "new" that appears to the left side of the topic in header. when i reply to existing posts that does not appear.

The "new" tag indicates that there is a message or a response to a message, that you haven't seen. If YOU respond to a message, your response is seen by you as you type it, therefore there is nothing "new"
for you to see and there is no "new" indicator on the thread.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

The 'New' icon in the forum next to the thread (not the post) is a timing thing.  If you've not read all the posts in the thread, the 'new' icon appears.  If you have, it doesn't.  Test:  read the thread, hit the 'back' button on your browser.  You are back where you were at the thread listing, and see the 'new' icon.  Hit 'refresh' in your browser, and the 'new' for that thread disappears, because the current time is after the time you read that post.

I don't see a 'new' indicator for each post.  Anyone?

You might want to delete all your cookies or logout and login to the board;  sometimes things get messed up and boards like this one can't tell that you've read or haven't read posts.  Hope all that helps!

I believe, and I may need correcting, but after I reply to this post, I won't get a "new" tag on the front page (with all the topics listed).  I think it is due to the fact that I have "read" the post I just submitted.

Anyway, that is how it has always worked, at least since I have been around!
