New HS Vanguard LED lighting very dim!
« on: June 10, 2005, 10:54:46 pm »
I finished filling my tub and its dark out. I applied power and turned on the light and the tub does not "glow" with any of the colors. Very dim.

I have cycled through all the setting...low-high.

The bulb lights and I can change all the colors.

I reached down to see if there was a film that needed to be removed but did not feel one.

Any ideas? ???

On my Caldera, there is 3 different intensitys, dependant on the mode you choose. On my controoler panel, there is a "light" button, which cycles from low, medium, high, off.

On mine too,3-4 monthes after purchase,I had a "heatsink" issue regarding the lights/control panel. They swapped it out and everything has been great since.

Possibly Chas can help,as he is the Hot-Springs Guru :)

What color is the finish of your tub?  You've probably taken this into consideration already, but dark-colored tubs don't reflect light as dramatically as light-colored ones.  I have a HS tub that is pearl (creamy) finish and it glows nicely.  (It does have 5 brightness levels to select from)

Its Pearl. When I wet tested the dealer dimed the lights and the tub was very bright.

I cycled from high all the way to off.

Chas may have some insight as he may have come accross this before.

Drober this is probably a stupid question but I am just trying to help. Are you pushing the button repeatedly or holding it down with constant pressure?

Open the motor compartment door and check to see that the light unit is properly in place. It simply presses on to three pins right behind the light lens, and it may have come loose during travel, or the delivery guys may have removed it while installing ozone etc.

If it's in place and still dim, call the dealer.

Chase you were right on the money!

Removed service panel and the light was laying on the floor. Snapped back in and can’t wait till tonight to see this baby glow!

Bonus... by removing the panel I saw the guys had my ozonater line crimped so I straightened it out and it took off pumping ozoan into the line. I may have to trim the air line and shorten it up a bit.

Thanks!

Thanks! ;D

I confirmed that it is not heating and have figured out that one of the breakers in the sub panel keeps trippin.

The sub panel has a 30amp and 20amp breaker. The 20amp keeps tripping. All the jets work without the 20 but the heater does not work.

re-set the 20 and I can feel warm water comming from the bottom of the tub.

That's backwards. Whoever hooked your spa up got the two circuits reversed:

The 30 amp breaker is supposed to run only the heater, and the 20 amp breaker is supposed to run everything else from the control system to the pumps.

The 20 will keep popping everytime the heater kicks in - get your electrician or installer back and have them swap those wires:

The two largest wires go to the hots on the 30 amp breaker, and there is no neutral wire for this breaker.

Those two wires should be on the #1 and #3 connectors at the spa end.

Hey Chas,

Is there a possibility that the jumpers could be set wrong?

Chas... Once again your the man ;D

Your advice on this board may be free but that does not mean it’s not valuable!

I broke out the owners manual and rewired my tub. It was so straight forward that the electrician must have been dreaming about his date that night. (actually his tee time if you read my other post).

I actually re-wired it before reading your post but I do recall moving the neutral off the 30 onto the 20.

There were two bigger wires and I know one was on the thirty but I will check the other one to make sure it is not run off the 20. *update*(re-checked and all is good).

It’s at 93 degrees and climbing!!!!!!
*update*(after re-wiring I got it up to 102 and christened the tub)!

P.S  I'm happy for those that get to buy a spa from you! ;)

P.P.S .... Chas..  When I kill the power to my spa the ozonator leaks at the bottom where there is some type of plug. Is this by deesign?  When powered up all is fine. I'm guessing this is some type of vacume design to drain standing water.

The ozonator leaking means that the check valve is bad, or was left off.

It won't really hurt anything, since the power is on most of the time, except for water changes and power failures. When the power is on and things are running correctly, there is a slight vacuum in the whole system so any leaks would allow air in rather than water out.

But you should check it out -  it's best to have the ozonator stay dry.
