30-70% off
« on: May 31, 2005, 08:00:03 am »
I saw this sign too late to stop and check this out, but we have seen an abundance of "North Carolina Furniture sales in a local warehouse.  This weekend, I saw signs along side the road for "30-70% off hot tubs", but it was late when I saw it, I would loved to have stopped to check out what they were selling.

Oh, there was a CLS logo on the sign, I think its the same one that does the furniture stuff.  I'll keep an eye out to see if they come back.

Whenever I see a sign offering a percentage off, I always wonder off of what?

I bought my daughter a set of rollerblades yesterday that were "On Sale" but when I read the fine print on the display is said the reduction was taken off of some price that the retailer may have never actually charged.

I don't like discounts referenced to fake retail prices.

In a single word, PERCEPTION.  The belief that a sale price is a price cheaper than it was before, so as to imply you are saving money when you spend your money and it's OK to buy today even if your not ready or don't need it because this is the LAST sale you will ever, ever see.  Second word, MOTIVATION. ;D

IMHO the interpretation should be, we want to sell you something, so we are going to let you think your'e saving money when you buy what you don't necessarily need, but you are saving money, so how could you go wrong.

The most rediculous SALE that I have ever seen, a bank having a financing sale> ::) ::)

Nothing, absolutely nothing has ever been 50% to 70% off, except mini-blinds and they ahve been up to 70% off for 30 years now. ;D

I would ask to see a recent deal where the final selling price was 70% higher than what you are about to pay.

Tell them you'll wait while they go find it...

I know it left a lot of questions, I wanted to stop just to see if this is one of those traveling shysters that TX Willie says he has seen in his area.   I was expecting to see some average looking tub that they claimed was $1000k retail for $3-5K
