I am planning on putting my tub roughly 10 steps from the house, it gets cold in Toronto in the Winter but ...... How far would you all recommend a tub from your backdoor on level ground?

Mine is set at exactly 6' from the door. and it's still means seems too far some winter nights.

Mine isn't too far but on a cold night you sure appreciate it being close to the house. If it's too cold outside I just hightail it to the house and leave my wife behind to close up the spa and add a bit of dichlor.

Mine's about 10' away from the back door.  Actually, getting out of the spa isn't really that bad in the cold if the wind is still.  I have enough time to close the cover and secure it, grab my towel and walk inside without freezing.  If the wind is blowing, then it gets challenging.
Mrs. Brewman, who isn't as cold tolerant as I, brings her robe down to the spa and pops in on before going inside when it's cold out.

10 steps = 10 seconds, go for it.  You first to get the cover off, you gonna absolutely love that hot water.  When you done, well that's a casual walk back because you are toasty warm to the inner core to the bone.  You could go sit in the snow, you bones are still 104°, just don't stay tooooo loonggg you'll have to get back in the tub.

Brewman, be a gentleman and run Mrs. Brewman's robe in the dryer for 3 to 5 minutes and get it toasty warm, then put it the cooler to keep it warm along with the towel until she gets out of the tub. You can leave yours hanging in the air on the towel tree.

I'll keep that in mind come this winter!  Never hurts to rack up some brownie points with the Mrs.  
Personally I dont' do the robe thing, even in winter.

I believe that my tub is going to be about 10 to 12 feet from the door - I didn't think it was too much when I was designing the deck.

Of course all bets are off if the dog locks me out as she did once before

MY Envoy is about 20 feet from the door and that is PLENTY FAR when it is cold. I would go no more than that!!  Good Luck and enjoy

Our Majesta is about 17 feet as it is located on the second level of our two tier deck. Since the deck is being built, I can't tell you if that is too far or not but living in warm GA, it's not really an issue how far away you are  !!

If you want to maximize your useage always do everything you can to make it more convienient to use your spa!

Put it as out of the weather as possible, have it as close to the door of the house as you can get it, always use a coverlift, simplify you chemical program to where you don't have to shower when you get out and in general make it as easy to use as possible!

Nope,
I've tried it on both and it works great! Best of all it heats what is in the path of the light not the air and does not require a fan for delivery. I believe in it so much I loan one to my customers to try before they buy!
