Quality Stain

I can't seem locate the earlier thread that discussed this issue.

We will be adding a treatment to our cedar cabinent and was hoping for a few thoughts on oil content/quality.

I seem to recall that linseed oil was used by a few of you. Any recommendations?

I use SuperDeck transparent stain.  It is a one coat process and is the product many manufacturers use (or used).

Linseed oil or tung oil is what your looking for.  I prefer tung oil and carry the brand "waterlox".  The oil is absorbed into the wood and keeps it from supple and from drying out while offering a water shed and uv protection.  the first coat will soak in like a sponge, the 2nd coat not as much, and then if you would like a furniture finish that really looks good, sand the cabinet down with some 80 to 100 grit and rag apply additional oil to finish the surface.  

This will keep your wood cabinet looking like a fine piece of furniture for the lifetine of the spa.

Do either of these products need to be diluted/mixed?

Or just apply straight on?

You apply it straight from the can, do not dilute, put waterlox into you serach engine or go straight to .com.

You will have a show piece.

I have been using tung oil on my cedar cabinet and it still looks new after 4 years outside in Northern Minnesota. A simple rag application every year and wahla. Be carefull where you dispose of the tung oil soaked rags. Let them dry first before disgarding in the trash can. A rag soaked in tung oil setting on top of something extremly flammable may self ingnite.

For those that use the "Waterlox" what type do you use?  I see they have a 2 finishes.  Marine Sealer and Marine Finish.  Which one is the better choice ?
