Getting rain water inside the cover...
« on: April 29, 2005, 10:03:48 pm »
Noticed the other day that the cover lifter seemed very heavy, aparently rain water has been getting in from the center seam of the cover.
Has anyone else gone through this. I have contacted the spa dealer, they are going to send a tech out to look at it.
It's an optima tub.

It's not unheard of for spa covers to get water logged.
How old is this one?

I have noticed that rain water will collect between the outside vinyl and the waterproof covering of the insulating cores.  Once lifted off the spa, it drains harmlessly out leaving no unwanted effects.  I assume it is entering through the stitching.  Doesn't seem to be a problem except for the initial opening and then it is not really a problem.....just a little heavier.

The spa is less than a year old,  anyone know about the waranty period of the covers?  Would it be a good idea to get a canopy over the spa?.

On my HotSpring Vanguard, the warranty for the cover was 1 year.  I had a small tear occur in mine, was taken care of asap!

It is a sundance optima, did the dealer replace the cover for you or fix the existing one?

I bet Sundance has the same kind of warranty on their covers, but you might email Stuart.  I bet he could help you right away!  (I miss him!)  I'll see if I can't track him down!

Anyway, they tried to fix it with a patch, but the patch just came off with the steam!  So, they replaced the cover!

No problems since!

I thought Stuart was a Marquis/D-1 dealer.  Perhaps J_McD, Chris H or one of the other SD dealers could help with warranty info.  By the way, have you talked to your own dealer about this?

Yes, Stu sells those, but he has lots of friends in the industry!  He has helped a few Sundance owners out!

Thanks Lori! I miss you too!!! :-[

I'm still alive and kicking but have been sooo busy lately...

As far as the cover, have you had any hail storms?

Quite often the cover gets damaged at the seam because of opening with the lifter. You can alleviate this issue with a "cover saver" that you can get on Doc's site or email Steve and he will get you to the right people. I would be interested in what your dealer does on this but maybe you can just by inserts. I actually took my foam inserts out, removed the plastic and let them dry in the sun for a week (but I had another cover to use), resealed the inside plastic and used it for another year. Sometimes this works.....

Be interesting to get you to post some pictures of your cover!
