Can you guy a good spa for $4500-5000?
« on: May 05, 2005, 11:30:04 am »
So...that is our budget.  Can't go over.  Is it possible to find a 5 seater that is good for that price?  If so, what brands should I be researching and wet testing?

It needs to be warm, make bubbles and stay clean with relatively few chemicals (ozonator?).  Cup holders and reliability wouldn't be bad either....but we don't need anything else.

Thanks!

I dont know alot about US prices but it may be difficult to get one around that price here in Canada.  I would say maybe a Costco unit or Home depot tub around here.

4000 to 5000 canadian eliminates many top brands names.  You can however get their entry level brands like sweet water I think is made by sundance, and arctic makes the coyotee spa.

I would say look into the brand names entry units for best luck. As for ozone usually an upgrade.  good luck and keep us posted on which units you looked at.

It would be 4500-5000 American.  So I guess that is like 6000ish Canadian?

Thanks!

Check out Colemans model 105 and 107, also Artesians Island series Antigua and Captiva 17 or 29 jet versions, they should come in around your budget.

Both solid built lines, no bells and whistles, just practile performance.

Dynasty Spas is coming out with a new line, They are called Sun Valley Spas. The price range is cheaper than the other series. You can get a 81" x 79" x 36" height spas with 36 jets two moters 4.0 hp  Balboa controls ( like most spas) for a very reasonable price.

Awesome info!  I really appreciate it.  The reason we don't want to spend an arm, leg, torso and more body parts is this would be purely for weekend use (2nd home).  More for entertaining than therapy...I have a couch for my therapy :)

Let me know if you have any other suggestions!

Hoya,
Basically all the name brand spas you've heard of have a premium line but they'll also have a more mid-range line and often a starter line. Just because you're budget may not put you in line for a 500 gallon spa with waterfalls and LED lighting doesn't mean you have to settle. Shop all the same makers as everyone else but let them know what your budget is. If you go tot he websites of the spa makers (Sundance, Marquis, Hot Springs, Caldera, Coleman, D1, Dynasty, Master, etc.) you should find a dealer locator on each site which will allow you to enter your zip code and see where their nearest dealer is.

It seems like many dealers carry a Viking line for that price range or under. They usually are a round tub with bench seating. Perhaps this would be good for a 2nd home.

Nordic Spas makes a great product, and they have several models within your budget.

I went to a new customer's home last week who purchased the absolute base model. I was there 3 days after they got it started so I could explain the chemical part as they were lost and desperate. They love it and while there the husband swallowed his pride and said "I didn't even want one but she talked me into it but I would only agree to spend $XXXX amount. After using it 3 days I wish I got one of the upper models and we're discussing selling it to my son later this year and upgrading to the #^%& model".

Often people have one expectation but after looking, testing and considering that this is a purchase that you can plan to use for a decade or more they sometimes rethink their plan. Check out all the dealers in your area that you can and keep an open mind.

You may want to check out Emerald.  I've been to an Emerald dealership and checked out whatever forums I can.  It appears there are people who have found them to be a solid tub for the money.  They are supposed to be a good value.  They have been around for awhile.  I don't know exactly what model you can get for $5000 but I would bet something decent.  They make each model in three price levels, which seem to reflect differences in total number of jets and number of pumps more than major differences in quality.  YOu may even be able to upgrade it later by adding pumps, jets, or whatever.  Call the manufacturer and ask.  I believe the website is emeraldspa.com.  It should be able to get you a local dealer's location.  If you have a dealer close enough to service you properly, give them a look.  I don't sell them or own stock in them.  I'm just a potential first time spa buyer who has tried to research carefully before I buy.  I may not buy an Emerald but for reasons other than my opinion of overall spa quality.  Another possible choice is LA.  You may be able to find one without bells and whistles for around $5000.  Although everyone is different in how a spa "feels", I found them to be very comfortable wet testing (Versions in the $6800-7200 price range) .Good Luck.
