2006 Great Texas Balloon Race Part 1
« on: July 17, 2006, 03:03:38 pm »
This weekend was the big balloon race.  This is our 5th year to participate and I am ashamed to say that I have never seen the balloons take off yet.  They leave at 6:00 am and I always stay up too late to get up and look out the window of the motor home.  Oh well, maybe next year.

Hannah brought along one of her friends (Kat) to help her this year:

The grizzled old veteran Tara joined us from Shreveport later in the evening.  Tammy had a previous engagement and was unable to attend.

The girls did their best Charlie's Angels impersonation in front of the National Guard's Hummer:

while the boss and I paid homage to the A-Team:

We did a group shot in front of an A-10 Warthog:

Tara really liked the Warthog as it probably bears a strong resemblance to her boyfriend:

There were some other nice planes:

and some great food:  fried alligator, rabbit, squirrel, rattlesnake, froglegs, basically anything a Coonass can find living under their house:

I got the girls to eat some fried alligator and Tara ordered up some crawdads.  And yes, she does suck the head:

The balloon glow is the highlight of the evening.  It is pretty impressive to see 60 balloons lighting up at night:

I kept having to shoo away the boys:

I ended up going to bed about 3:00 am.  It was a lot of fun, but Saturday was going to be a blast.

Continued in part 2.....

Wow, very nice Term. Does the Great Ball of Meanness ever get jealous with your work associates? Do you pretend that you're working yourself to the bone when she comes by the tent?

Oh, what was the high temperature at the event?
2005 Hot Spring Envoy still going strong. Million-Mile Club....

I want to get in the spa business so I can surf the internet and use Photoshop all day long.

re: Curves.

Am I the only one that when I first saw a "Curves" I thought: "Ohhhh, a nudie bar!."

Man was I wrong.

The looks I got when I stumbled in there with a fistful of one dollar bills and asked for a Jack Danials on the rocks.  :P

Just curious. If you are in the RV next to the display where exactly do the, umm, "models" stay?

And does that explain why you don't make it up at 6AM to see the balloons "rise"...

Ol' Meanness realizes that she has essentially turned me into a eunuch over the years and I have little interest in sexual relations nowadays outside of my firearms, cigars, and Shiner Bock Beer.  There is no concern regarding dalliances with the hydrotherapy technicians.

It was around 104 with 80%+ humidity, which is what makes it fairly unbearable.  The runway was hotter than a pepper patch.
