Grandee ozonator stopped working why??
« on: March 12, 2005, 07:19:24 pm »
I have had my hot tub 3 months.  I turned the power to the spa off today to check the filters, and when I turned it back on the ozonator had quit working??  Anyone have any guesses as to why?  How can I fix it??

Also what is the best degreaser to use to clean my filters??

Thanks so much!!

Sorry. I can not help with your Ozonator but something you might want to try for future filtering cleaning is "Sea Klear 4 in 1 clarifier it is a wonderful product and I have found that you can eliminate the need for a filter cleaner as filters wash so easily from just rinsing with the hose... treat you spa weekly with it ...a great product

Sometimes the water backs up into the ozonator when you shut off power. If this is the case, leave it alone: it will dry out as the air begins to flow through it again. It will then resume ozone generation.

But tell the dealer - he should give you a new check valve, if it's bad.

Sea Klear is a good product.  Did you know its made from crushed up shellfish.  Completly natural, you could drink it if you wanted with no ill effects.  I have never used it in a spa, but it works wonders in pools.

It sounds like you may have gotten some water past your check valve. Hopefully it didn't get into the ozonator itself. It may be as simple as waiting for the check valve to reopen as the diapham dries or a new check valve which is a simple change out IF needed.

No - add a bit more chlorine to keep the water safe and fresh.

it is not necessary to power down the grandee when
checking filters. in fact you run a risk of air lock by doing this. your ozone air intake may be plugged or your circ pump may have air lock. anytime you turn the power back on to your grandee, wheather it be for draining or whatever, you must first turn on your 20 amp breaker in the sub-panel and listen and watch for your circ pump to fire up. run both jet pumps for a minute, move your diverters around to different jet menus and then after you know all the air has been purged from the equipment, turn on your 30 amp breaker. the 30 amp controls the heater and this procedure will help avoid air lock and heater hi-limit tripping. there is also a pumice filter on the bottom of your ozonator that may need to be cleaned
