In my thinking, if the gazebo had been anchored the wind would have been MORE apt to wreak havoc with the roof, not less. The fact that the gazebo wasn't anchored allowed the wind to move the gazebo a bit and therefore took some of the energy away from its ability to remove the roof altogether.

I don't think this situation could of been handled any better. Congratulations on eating some profits. Unfortunately, in order to grow your business, these things happen. I would have done the same. The only issue that still remains is the anchoring of the gazebo. Is the homeowner finally going to take ownership and responsibility for HIS products now?
