I've not seen this one before

Shocked the spa this AM and left the cover open with the jets on. Basically got busy and forgot about it and it was open for about an hour and a half. Went out to close it up and a flock of birds was dining on the abundance of cedar berries in the 40 ft cedar tree above the spa. The spa has now been dosed with liberal amounts of bird poop and berries. I cleaned off what was on the ledges. I'm probably going to have to get a skimmer net to scoop out what sank.

What do ya'll think about the sanitation of the water? I'd like to not drain it, just really up the sanitizer and then shock it again (at night when the birds are asleep)

Just shock, sanitize and check the PH.  As well as a little skimming....Make sure the kids don't drink any!

I'd shock the HE11 out of it, then drain and refill it, and shock it again.

I'm very serious on this and have a reasonable amount of knowledge regarding this. My father's a vet, and in his circles is considered a world renowned expert on birds (if not "the" world renound...).

Birds carry a number of diseases that are contagious to humans. While they are generally not too serious, and difficult to catch from your situation, I don't feel it worth the risk. Some of these diseases are quite common in wild birds, more so than pets. The most common bird ailment is psittacosis. More info on it at http://www.ccohs.ca/oshanswers/diseases/psittacosis.html.

Birds also carry a form of tuberculosis that we can get.
If you can't sell it on eBay, it may not even qualify as landfill.

Not exactly what I wanted to hear, but I'm draining it now. Went out a bit ago and the water doesn't look so appealing. Looks, well, like a bird bath. That 's an exaggeration, but it does have an odd tinge about it. I dumped a large dose of granular bromine in it and circulated that for about an hour.

As Roseanne-Roseanne Adana said: It's always something.

Thanks Doc

I think my motto for computer repair works for spa water too.

When it doubt, swap it out.

We will have our 24th anniversary in the spring, so our marriage can drink legally as well.  Geesh, another thing Chas felt he had to out do me in.

Chas, don't feel you need to roll your truck 4 times.
