Does your cover have some form of heat-seal in the hinge area?

Hmmm???

I was just looking at that last night. Came out to a nice gentle snowfall with big fat snow flakes.  Had to brush off the cover and I was looking around for steam leaking. In that area is a thing that looks like a leather bean bag. Ever play Toss-accross?  The bean bag is about that size.

Mine has a square piece in the middle.  I did notice some steam escaping from it this morning.  Any way to reduce it?

I pulled this post from the Arctic thread:

"Ever the practical one, let me add this to the mix:

When you look out in the morning and see frost on the cover of a 102 degree spa, does that mean that there is no heat being transfered through the cover?

I know that when it happens in my backyard - rare I'll admit - it seems to go away first at the seam, but then the rest of it stays until the sun hits it, and it goes away exactly as the sun travels across the cover, or it will go away en-masse if a the temp climbs quickly as when the Santa Anna winds come up."

My Colemans have it. My D-1's have the "bean bag" and the Softubs have jack.

Marquis also goes the extra step to include it across the entire hinge.

Beachcomber also has the "flappy thing" across the entire cover. It does a great job of helping to keep the heat in, but admittedly does looks a little silly. Our super duper fancy name for it is the "Heat Bumper Seal."

Ok, a couple of things What good would it do all the way accross the seam?  Maybe a picture would help.  Doc you sell covers, what do you think.  A new cover might be a year down the road for me.

The good it does is typically that is a part of the cover that has no insulation. I am sure some of the snow belt can chime in to attest when you have a light snow the hinge would be the area that had no snow. So a 7' Sq. cover would have approximately 168" square inches of no insulation.

There is some info on Doc's ite if you are interested. The link is: http://www.rhtubs.com/covers/insulate.htm

Point number ten as you scroll down the page answers why it is important to have a "flappy thing" on your cover.

There are a few pictures as well, but I don't know how to post them, or even if that would be permitted.

Thats assuming a 2" gap between cover halfs? Once my cover is down, I push the two halfs together Certainly thats not air tight, but its something. I'll have to look at the next frost I get.

Thought a picture would help! Notice the light gray additional piece going all the way down the center.
