I can tell you that in 1956 the median household income ws $4,783.00. the minimum wage was $1.00, A postage stamp cost $.03, and a loaf of bread was $.18. A quart of milk cost $.24, a gallon of gas was $.30 and a new car averaged $2,637.00.
It looks like everything pretty much went up by a factor of 10. Everyone always complaims about the cost of gas but it's such a relative thing.
