Spatech, My kids are like yours! they love all the music that my husband and I enjoyed. Since my hubby is a bit older than I am, he takes them back to Motown, the Temptations, Aretha, ....They know all the songs and the artists. I just love hearing my 15 year old playing some of Cream's music on his guitar.   My kids are into hemp necklaces and tye dye shirts and I am amazed at the kids at school who are willing to pay for their art work.
When the 15 year old  asked me to take him to the "head Shop" up town to get some incense, it really blew my mind. I guess I didn't realize there were still head shops around! I am real glad however that they have a much better understanding of the drug culture than most of my generation did. My hubby and I got the biggest kick of the two of them when we showed them a turntable on our old sound system.  They were amazed that music actually played from those old vinyl records! ;D

I think everyone belives the best music was the music that was popular while they were in high school.

Me? I graduated in 82.

Springsteen

The Who

ACDC

Styx

REO Speedwagon

all these come very quickly  to mind as being big.    Punk was just getting going and techno rock was slowy creeping in as well.

/good times.   :)

Same year graduating, same bands. I didn't realize you were so young! ;)

1982?  When I think of that list of bands, I think the seventies...or the sixties for some.

The Who...debuts 1964

REO Speedwagon...debuts 1971

Styx...1972

ACDC and Springsteen...1973

;D ;D

Those were the songs we were listing to. Not neccesarly the newest bands.

REO speedwagon had a top hit in 1982: Keep the fire burnin.

I saw Styx in the 80's. thie Paradise Theater Album (1980) was thier biggest hit.

Sprinsteen kept comming out strong in the 80s'; The River,  Born in the USA, Tunnel of Love,  etc.

The Who had annouced one of thier final tours around then. and Townsend was big with some solo work...

1981 AC/DC has thier biggest release with Back in black (in memory of Bon Scott)

So they were all alive and kicking then, some at the top of thier carreer.

Hell, I just saw the Stones last fall.  ;),  Sprinsteen a few months ago, and will hit Buffett in a few short months.

I was actually being sacastic. I should have said Duran Duran and Thompson Twins and you would have gotten it better.

I'm in a time warp myself because I still prefer to listen to VH, Who, AC/DC, Eagles, etc. just like it was 25 or 30 yrs ago whenI was a teenager. What's funny is my teenagers go through my CDs and download a lot of what I like. We were out one night and one had a Beatles shirt on and the other an AC/DC shirt and some guy decided to be a wise ass and said "You kids like that music huh, name two songs of each" They rattled off about 5 each and then my smart ass 13 yr old says "name the 5th Beatle" and the guy was like "um, wow, you guys really do listen" and he walked away looking like a fool.

I suspected you were being sarcastic, but still, I do enjoy the occasional Night Ranger tune.  As for the Thompson Twins, Oingo Boingo, the Bangles, etc...
Same league as 1970's disco.  Pop fodder in my book.

My kids are similar- they play my CD's all the time.
Unfortunately, my son is also into that Gangsta Rap crap.  I guess that's his way of driving me crazy the same way I probably drove my parents crazy with Zepplin, Skynyrd, The Who, etc...
They probably drove their parents crazy with Elvis, and Jerry Lee Lewis.

Brwman, you just reminded me of something funny that happened the other day. My 13 year old is thin as a rail and small for his age. His brother, 15 is average size..Don't ask me how but the little one ended up mistakenly wearing his brother's pants to school the other day! this is hilarious as the 13 year old wears a size 12 and the 15 year old a size 16! When he got home I couldn't stop laughing and figured all the kids teased him all day. He said, when I realized what I did, I just told everyone I was getting into the Rap scene (where the crotch of the pants are around the kid's knees)...I guess you had to see it to appreciate it...but I am still laughing! ;D ;D

Brewman-
I just read this morning that the Steve Miller Band will be at the State Fair this year.   Aug 28th, tickets are only 36.00 and went on sale March 18.  I hope it's not sold out yet.

FYI:
My friend writes reviews for a local paper and got to see Steve Miller.  He said Steve Miller was a great show and one of the most under appreciated guitar players out there.  He was very impressed.

$36 to see Steve Miller is a heckuva deal.
Jump on those tickets, they may go quickly.

I'm even tempted to try and get a couple seats.
But I'm not that big of a State Fair person.

We do live relatively close to the largest Casino this side of Vegas, and get the opportunity to see some less popular bands of the era for somewhat reasonable fees.
I got to see Heart and Chicago in the past couple years, both were great shows.  And tickets were in the $35-$40 range.
I was especially impressed with Heart.  Anne and Nancy Wilson had a great interaction with the audience, and they can still belt out the tunes and wail on guitar.
I liked chicago too (have seen them 3 times), but am not all that fond of their newer sound.  I like the old style hard driving horns, which have given way a bit to the synthesized stuff.

wow.....this gets me to thinking about what bands I've seen.....some I don't remember (saw a couple of the "monsters of rock" type concerts with several BIG names playing)...
but I guess here's a smaller list.....Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Queensryche, Heart, Scorpions, Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Metallica.....
Which brings another memory to light.....I drove school bus awhile back, and I, too, have raised my son on stuff like Steve Miller, Pink Floyd, etc, etc, etc.....anyhow, I was driving one day, and one of the kids got me on the topic of music....played a little of what the "current" batch of crap was, who I couldn't name then or now....and asked if I recognized it......I said 'NO'....then said I was more into music like Pink Floyd.....well, the response made me feel ANCIENT......
"Pink WHO???"
My son can sing some of Johnny Cash, Beatles, AC/DC, etc.....and he knows their music for the most part. Makes me feel like I've raised him right. ;)
RIP C-Rod
